Description: Welcome to Squid Ink restaurant situated in the historic fishing port of Looe in South East Cornwall. This intimate 28 cover restaurant is chef owned and opened in July 2008. Housed within a character filled period building the decor is a fusion of contemporary and antique offering an eclectic blend of old and new.Looe is a pretty seaside town and important Cornish port selling mainly day caught fish from small trawlers, netting boats and line fishing boats, where the highest EU quality level of E (excellent) is electronically `attached' to almost every box of fish. Day boats are considered one of the more sustainable ways to fish, and they also provide the freshest fish (it hasn't been sitting on a boat that has been at sea for a week or more). We are committed to offering outstanding service our menu includes a dietary key indicating which dishes may not be suitable for allergy sufferers or those just wishing to avoid certain foods such as dairy. If however you have any additional dietary requirements you are welcome to discuss them with the chef who will endeavour to accommodate them.

“Wonderful food and service!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

We booked ahead, and I mentioned my food allergies. When we arrived, we were greeted warmly and seated in the comfortable lounge. Our drink orders were taken, and I was assured that they would take my allergies into account. The menu was explained, and we placed our order. The dining area was very comfortable, and the tables were not crowded together. They gave me a special complimentary appetizer of delicious tempura scallops, while my husband enjoyed the soup. He had a fantastic lamb dish, which was too much to finish. I had a fabulous Cornish chicken breast with asparagus mousse. The food was delicious, presentations lovely, and wonderful service. Don't miss this very special restaurant.

Thank you Miriam for taking the time to post a review after your recent visit to our restaurant. It is always pleasing to read that those of our guests with special dietary needs feel that we have been able to support their requests. Warren is able to change many of his dishes to suit a variety of diets as all of his dishes are cooked freshly for each client.

We look forward to seeing you again soon on your next visit to Looe

Kind regards

Warren and Catherine

“Lovely meal”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Our meal at Squid Ink was very good, lovely fresh ingredients cooked well.
The front of house were particularly good.
The only slight criticism was the atmosphere. Whilst we don't mind a quiet restaurant, I think some people might not. I guess they stagger the tables in order to give the kitchen time to do justice to the food, but this can make the place feel a little empty

Thank you for taking the time to comment on your recent visit to our restaurant, your comments on the service were particularly pleasing. As you rightly point out we do stagger the tables to ensure that our diners do not feel rushed, unfortunately sometimes if our diners are booked in the early or last tables the restaurant can seem a little quite as we do not rebook or turn tables. We hope this did not spoil your evening with us and hope to see you again soon.

Kind regards

“Fine British Dining at its best.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 17, 2013 via mobile

I booked ahead for a special occasion and boy am I so glad I did. It gets done seriously good reviews on TA, and having eaten there they deserve every plaudit for the food and service on offer. The Restaurant has a great atmosphere and homely feel which is so difficult to attain. We had a very warm and friendly welcome from the owner upon arrival. They had remembered it was my wife's birthday, which was a nice touch. The service throughout was attentive without being fussy. The menu had an excellent range of dishes and a good selections of daily 'specials'. The wine list was extensive too. I had a Scallop special selection to start and my wife chose the Squid in Tempura batter. Both were delicious, and presented beautifully. For mains, I went for the Seafood Risotto and my wife plumped for the Cod. Again, both dishes were delightful and were cooked to perfection. We were too full for dessert, but we did notice that they offered a good choice of dishes. A nice touch to conclude our meal was a individual cupcake serviced at our table with a candle to wish my wife a happy birthday. Overall, we can see why this place is the number one dining spot in Looe, according to TA contributors. It is a truly special restaurant and I would, based on our experience, have no hesitation in recommending it to friends and family visiting the area.
