“best in town for beer or coffee...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 5, 2014

Beerwolf Books, as its name suggests, is a bar with books - lots of books and lots of beers. The wonderful concept of a bookshop (specialising in exactly the books desired by the town's many creative students) and a bar heavily stocked with a wide variety of beers works really well, whether you are browsing or wiling away the time over coffee in the daytime, having a drink with friends in the evening, or whooping it up on Friday or Saturday night!
In one sense it is a real hidden gem as it's tucked behind shops in the main street, and it can offer a peaceful coffee in contrast to the mainstream providers. And for those old enough, the pleasantly gloomy interior and chilled-out music will give you a wonderful time-warp back to 60s coffee bars. You can write and read here without distraction in the daytime.
Writing, design and arts groups meet here too.
And it comes alive big time on Fridays and Saturday evenings.

“Great place to while away a few hours”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 7, 2014

What a super concept! Hidden away in a little passage off Market Street. I saw 'Bookstore' and 'Free House' underneath. As the two don't normally go together I investigated. Very good selection of beers and ciders. Very approachable and efficient staff. Everybody was chatting quietly or reading from the supply of books at well below Amazon or WHS etc.... prices. I was ashamed to have a Kindle with me that I left in my rucksack! I had two pints of 5.3% Porter and left after two hours of very pleasant ambiance.

A great concept of bar and bookstore. Great atmosphere, not too pubby, excellent music and beers from a local brewery. Plus hidden away from the tourists - a real find!

“Unique”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 13, 2013

Hidden themed pub in a courtyard opposite Marks & Spencers. This is a pub within a bookshop offering nice ales. Give this a try if you want something different.
