“Great value, bright, cheerful and high standards”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed March 24, 2013

We had 3 glorious days and nights at St Michaels' We first came here 11 years ago and it has improved by leaps and bounds. The standard is really high, great attention to detail in decor and cleanliness. The food is astonishingly good, we decided not to go to restaurants nearby as the hotel food topped them all, so innovative and fresh. We looked forward to each meal. The rooms are often small, but comfortable and bright, sound proofing could do with some improvement. The spa is great, very well-informed staff and you feel instantly relaxed and free. All the staff are so friendly, you feel it is a happy team and they always put the customer first.

Room Tip: Try and get a sea-view, you will also overlook the beautiful hotel garden. You can get very cheap ca...

We went to this hotel for our honeymoon (3 nights) and the hotel was very good. The room was a good size and had an amazing view of the sea. We had to move rooms as there was some work going on but we received a refund as well as a free bottle of champagne. The restaurant was nice as was the dinner and breakfast service was excellent. My only complaint was the carpets in the room and hallway were stained/worn out and some of the furniture was stained which for the price should have been looked at.

Room Tip: Try to get room 20 your on the corner with a sea view and only have one room next to you.

Just had an amazing Foodie Break - champagne cream tea, cocktails and an 8 course taster menu on our second night. Nothing too much trouble and the staff were incredibly attentive. Upgraded to a superior plus room which had an uninterrupted sea view although a little on the small side as was the bathroom. Nice pool, sauna and jacuzzi and not overly busy although we did go out of season. Our third trip to the hotel and it was just as good if not better than before. Well worth a visit if you like a contemporary feel and a love of sea food.

Room Tip: Being a converted house the rooms are a little quirky and all very different. Sea facing rooms are o...

Just returned from a fourth stay at St. Michael's; this time with 7 family members to celebrate a big birthday. The staff were fantastic this time - nothing was too much trouble. Our rooms were all great - clean and well decorated with lovely garden and sea views. The beds were really comfortable with good quality pillows. Dinner in the Flying Fish was excellent. The menu included lots of local ingredients and was designed to appeal to a broad range of tastes. It found approval from all three generations in our party. The spa treatments were as good as any we have had from top rated spas although the pool and gym felt a little over-crowded at times. This will doubtless improve when the spa extension is finished. Prices have gone up quite a bit since previous visits so value for money was a bit stretched. But I will certainly be recommending St. Michaels to family and friends and would certainly go back again.

Room Tip: Avoid room overlooking the car park, they can be small and dark. Rooms with garden and sea views ar...

I got a great deal here. £69 bed and breakfast and £24 for a 3 course meal.
I was also upgraded to a room in the Captains house which was an added bonus.
Only one downside. The people in the room below me had a dog and they left it in the room while they ate at the restaurant and it barked constantly until they came back.
Food was absolutely excellent as always and the breakfast set me up for the day!!

Room Tip: If you can get a room in the captains house they are exellent

We stayed in the "Captains house" which is basically an old renovated property next to the main hotel.Although nicely furnished and spotlessly clean it was pretty small. It also suffered from the usual plumbing problems associated with an older property ie a shower that was no more than a dribble and the feeling that the next room were bathing at the end of your bed.The staff were very helpful and attentive and the breakfast was excellent. So no real complaints but at £104.00 a night for the most basic room I felt it was stretching it's value for money.

Room Tip: Be aware that the "Captains house" is not part of the main hotel.

A one night stay on business and I was rewarded with fantastic service on arrival, a shame the room was like a prison cell, tiny, with windows at the very top of the wall.

The food was outstanding in the restaurant as was the service again, I used the gym and the facilities were really good, despite the room I would stay here again as I thought it was good value.
