“Forget the expense and do it !”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 18, 2011

Having been to a plethora of Steak restaurants over the years, my colleagues and I stumbled across this restaurant last January 2010, since then, I have been back 4 times, and not once has the food let us down. Yes it's pricey and the starters, yet delicious, are expensive, but if you want just steak then there is no where better. We've had them all except the filet mignon, and despite the difference in prices, there is a steak value for everyone and they are all equally as tasty. The staff are knowledgeable, friendly, talented (ask them to create a surprise cocktail or mocktail) and well presented, as opposed to the George and Dragon, which despite it's food lacks a lot of service quality.

This place is a must if in Chester. (up there with Joseph Benjamin)

Don't forget to get the Sticky toffee pudding for desert !!

“Great place for an amazing steak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 16, 2011

We booked for 6.30 and were shown upstairs to have a drink and choose from the menu. Bartender was very good brought drinks over and went through the cuts we could choose from, great selection! I had the Porterhouse my wife had the ribeye, both cooked perfectly. Can definitely recommend dinner here.

“Amazing introduction to steak”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 14, 2011

I booked for my wife and I so we could try our first steak since returning to eating meat after 20 years as vegetarians. Figured if we're going to try it, it should be in a place that knows how to cook it properly.

We where initially shown to the bar for drinks before the meal, where the waiter showed us the raw meat board! He described each of the cuts of meat on the board and how their flavours would differ, and this was especially good for us as we weren't familiar with all the different options. We both ordered the Delmonico (Rib Eye), and were not disappointed. The flavours were excellent, and cooked just as we'd requested. Our deserts were excellent too.

The restaurant itself is very intimate, with only 9 or 10 tables, making it feel like a special occasion. The gents toilet was a novelty, being a bucket, but this all added to the experience.

We would definitely go again, if we didn't live 400 miles away in Inverness! Highly recommended.

“Outstanding Roast Beef”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 10, 2011

We went to Upstairs at the Grill on Sunday 9th Jan after looking at the reviews on Trip Advisor. What an amazing find. We decided to go for the Sunday Roast and had beef. It was without doubt the best ever. Presentation, quality of ingredients, taste, service - it was all there. We will definately be back.

“Atmospheric, romantic, impeccable!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 22, 2010

Offering an array of romantically lit rooms, upstairs at the grill endeavours to serve the very best in cuts of steak. Sat eating at the bar on a raised sofa, it offered a unique experience. I thorougly recommend for a romantic meal. Warning though-Do book a table in advance. A small restuarant with intimate setting and great food and entertaining service, its a popular choice.
