“Excellent Ambiance & Really Good Food”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2014

Superb cocktail bar with a great choice of drinks, especially the numerous 'gin tonic' options. Service was top notch in both the bar and restaurant.
There's a great choice of meals & the variety of steaks is superb and good quality, they are indeed worthy of having.
Expensive? Well, if you want to try one of the best places in Chester, then it's simple... You get what you pay for, so for me, for a special occasion, it was well worth it.

“Check your bill and beer prices”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

No complaints about the food, steak choices are superb, cooked exactly as you want them, stunning taste, read about the sides prices but we selected a couple and shared, the size of and quality of steak meant the sides were a nice supplement.
Great food and would highly recommend you try it.
Now for the bad bit: check your bill, yes genuine error, but we would have paid for a bottle of wine that we did not have, very rarely check a bill but glad I did on that occassion. when we got to hotel checked the bill again, charged £6 for a bottle of beer, yes £6, come on upstairs at the grill, your food is not the cheapest and I don't mind paying for good food but your beer was not that good. Felt a little disappointed when we saw the cost of the beer, 3 bottles £18, no prices on website for beers, or when in restaurant feel you should warn people of your beer prices instead of giving us a hard sell.
Will return and will recommend as we have done before, but please advertise or reduce the ridculous beer prices. The poor value rating is simply about the beer not the food

“Excellent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 26, 2014

This was our 2nd visit in less than a week, so it must be good.
Fantastic experience, you are guided upstairs to the bar area which reminds me of a New York bar with excellent bar staff who can make the finest cocktails and if you don't know what you want, tell them what you like and they will create something bespoke for you.
If you haven't been before they will sit with you and explain the menu and show you the different cuts of steaks they offer.
My favourite is Chateaubriand.
Good atmosphere and superb food and that is why it is one of the best restaurants in Chester.

“Incredible food, a wonderful experience.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 21, 2014

This was our first visit to 'Upstairs at the Grill'. The welcome and overall service was very good, the ambiance and atmosphere is relaxed and comfortable yet classy. The menu is very tempting, I chose the blue cheese soufflé to start, a colossal, 25oz steak (which was cooked to perfection) and then ice cream to finish. When choosing our steaks a selection was brought out to us on a wooden board and then the server gave as an informative overview of each cut.

Prices are on the more expensive side, and for the main each side has to be purchased individually however for that special occasion this venue really does nail it!
