We were looking for a small, intimate restaurant in Chester for Saturday 1st December, which was reccomended by fellow Tripadvisors and decided upon Chez Jules on Northgate Street.
I popped in at 1800 hrs on Saturday re a table for 2 and was given the option of 2115 hrs which I accepted.
On going back at 2100, the place was packed, which is only good news as far as Im concerned - surely reflects on the standard of the place ? Hmm - I was wrong.
We were advised that our table was reserved upstairs and were shown to an intimate alcove and had a quick beer.
Shortly thereafter, we were shown to our table, which unfortunately backed onto an extended trestle table affair, at which were seated approx 25 to 30 people, who has obviously been in for some time ie a works Xmas do :-(
One female did nothing but shriek all evening at anything someone on the table said ie "Look at me, Look at me" You know the type.
The upstairs section of the restaurant reverberates excessively but there were no spare tables and it would have been too late to look for somewhere else, so we suffered it.
The menu itself has been curtailed into a Xmas menu but the choices we made were well cooked and a decent price ie £22 for 2 courses and we chose a ribeye steak and beef bourguignon.
The wine list was more extensive and competitively priced.
All in all, we had a decent meal at a decent price but I'd advise anyone looking for a decent restauarant at this time of year to look elsewhere, as Chez Jules is obviously a magnet for works do's at this time of year, the restaurant becomes extremely noisy and the menu is short of choice.
The restaurant across the road looked far more intimate (sorry but cant remember the name, but has a seperate Tapas bar)
