“Chester's hidden secret”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 1, 2009

I booked this hotel for my birthday as we had been to Chester before and really enjoyed our stay. We had a bit of difficulty finding the hotel and its car park but that was our only fault with. The level of service offered at reception was excellent , where we were informed that we had been given a complimentary room upgrade. We quickly located our room, which we were very impressed with. The room was very modern and clean with nice furnishings and bath robes. The hotel is located very close to the city centre and just minutes from all the bars and places to eat. Would definately go back again!

  • Liked — Location and the room - very clean and modern
  • Disliked — Small car parking spaces.

Our trip to Chester was for a birthday surprise, the room was lovely, even though it was on the main road side of the hotel it was really quiet, a big surprise was breakfast was included which was great the breakfast was a buffet a really good selection. On the Saturday night there was a large function on downstairs but you would not know anything about it. The hotel is in a brillant location for the city centre and the shops.

We recently stayed at the Crowne Plaza in Chester for the night of Nov. 24, 2008. We stayed here using 25,000 rewards points and I was very pleased with the value and amenities that the hotel had to offer. Here are the highlights of my stay:

1. The Crowne Plaza is hard-to-find since it is located on a one-way side street near the pedestrian areas but once you get there, it is great because the hotel is only a 3 minute walk to the historic Rows, Watergate Street, Chester Cathedral, etc. It was a huge relief to leave our car in the hotel's parking lot (7 GBP/nt) and explore the city by foot.
2. As my photos show, our room was modern but well appointed with good lighting, clean fresh bedding, complimentary tea and coffee making provisions and a view onto the nearby hills of Wales. The bathroom had a strong shower and plentiful towels. I really liked their toiletries which had a nice quality spa-smell to them.
3. The workout facility was large and had a variety of exercise equipment and reading material, all complimentary to Crowne Plaza guests. It was well ventilated and cool, and I had a great workout there.
4. The staff was helpful and efficient. Everything we needed from them (check-in, check-out, more towels, etc...) was handled in a matter of minutes.

Although not connected with the Crowne Plaza, our best meal of the trip was at a nearby Italian restaurant called Piccolino's. The food and service were superb and it was only about a 7 minute walk back to the hotel.

I was very happy with my stay at The Crowne Plaza Chester and would love to return!

This is a really good hotel.....excellent service and reasonable bar prices. Hotel less than 5 mins walk away form the main shopiing area which is good....especially when it comes to xmas shopping. Room was well equiped and of average size and well kept and clean.

The only -ve comments i have are that the beds are really hard. We slept ok but probbaly would have slept better if the bed was a bit softer. Also i found the location a bit unsafe in the dark - the hotel is down a couple of quiet alley ways which don't feel all that safe...and it doesn't warrant taking a taxi as everywhere is within 5 minutes or so walking distance.

All in all a really good stay and would go again.

We came back at the Crowne Plaza as we enjoyed our previous stay, but this time our stay was very different.....
I have written a previous review as our stay last year was very good but this time it was a different matter.....
As it was our wedding anniversary i contacted the hotel a few weeks prior to arrival, to see if maybe they could arrange a room upgrade and for some champagne to be put in the room to surprise my wife, i also ask them to send me details of the beauty treatments offered at the hotel.
The email i received back from them was just the price of the champagne, with no mention of a room upgrade or of the info i was after.
I had to contact them 3 times about the beauty treatments, they said that they would send me a price list, which i never received so i ended up booking our treatments somewhere else, maybe it was for the best as the place we used called the Beauty Lounge was very good and we really enjoyed our treatments there.....
On arrival only one desk was open for check in, the priority club lane was closed, as it was a Friday you can imagine it to be busy and with only one desk to check in, it took a while...
I was disappointed to find out that they did not upgrade our room despite my request.
The room was ok but a bit outdated and nowhere near the room we had last year....
Breakfast had plenty of choice but the service was a bit sluggish, with waiters/waitresses more interested in talking about their week end than clearing tables or serving you.
Same applied for the staff at the bar.
Nobody was at the reception desk of the leisure facilities to welcome us so we had to "try again later".
Also, take note that the car park is charged to you as an extra as a rate of £7.50 per day but reception doesn't always make you aware of that until you check out.
We had a brilliant time as a family though, and tried not to let these little "problems" affect our quality time together but considering how much we paid for our stay it was a bit disappointing.
As much as we loved our first experience this time round was a bit disappointing and i think that we will stay somewhere else next time we visit Chester.

just arrived back from the crowne plaza in chester we have stayed here a couple of years ago and can not fault it, we arrived early so they held our cases for us until we returned, check in was quick and efficient, we had an executive room on the fourth floor and it was clean warm and very up to date with plasma tv, the bar staff werent very friendly but the rest of the staff couldnt do enough for you. Had a problem in the restaurant at night with the evening meal but the manager went out of his way to rectify the problem and i was extremely inpressed with his service. I would definatley go back again very well run hotel central location but very quiet you wouldnt know you were so close to the town and breakfast was good, plenty of choice and very hot. The car park you had to pay for but it was only £7.50 a night and protected by cctv.

The first thing i must say is we got this hotel on a freebie from Priorityclub points saved from another hotel.....yippee!

The hotel is in a great location and only a very small walk will get you smack bang in the centre of Chester.

Check in was fine and went smoothly, the room itself was very modern, clean and comfortable.

The bar and public area's were very nice as was the pool and spa facilities.

The only downside is that residents have to pay for parking in the hotel car park but apart from that its faultless.
