“Not one for the warmer months”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 17, 2012

We've stayed here before and never been disappointed, I'm focussing this on the Premier Inn itself as opposed to the pub next door (Has soft play, outdoor playground, normal Brewers Fayre stuff), which is pretty much standard Premier Inn quality, clean, well serviced, just works *but* it has no air con. It has a temperature control in the room but that only controls the heating, once it's above ambient you're stuck.

In our case, August 2012, not the hottest summer ever, about 23 degrees outside on a dry day, it was 26.5 in the room (This was a family room upstairs, down stairs was nice and cool - because they had all the doors open), and it didn't get cooler. Four of us in the room and it was uncomfortable, if it were a really hot summer day it would be unbearable. So top tip, to enjoy this Premier Inn make sure you get a downstairs room in the summer, or see if they've fitted air-con!

Room Tip: Downstairs room, *much* cooler

Staff were fantastic, very friendly and informative. Room was beautifully decorated with modern facilities. Bed was a little hard and no iron but well worth the price paid for a budget hotel. Park was an issue.

I have stayed at this hotel a few times and it has always been great. However the bar service was by far worse than the last visit. It took me around 20 minutes to wait and then get the drinks , i think this is far too long. On one occasion i was at the smaller bar area next to where the buffet stands and was told to move round and join the que??? After the server served me my Becks , then took the money i had to walk back around to collect the pints AGAIN??? Why is there such a stupid system in place??? The next time i went up, i knew there was a huge que for food so i waited in the small bar area, No-one acknowledged me, i then waited in the 20 minute food que to order 2 pints AGAIN??? I have worked in big chain restaurants before and this to me doesnot work. Can u not have 4/5 people behind the bar on a friday and saturday night some taking food orders and a couple just serving drinks and not have one massive que blocking the entrance?? SIMPLES...If you need to know how to do this, visit the southport Brewers Fayre, this is a far more organised operation which probably at a guess takes 3 or 4 times more money than this one

Stayed at the hotel for 3 nights. Staff all willing and friendly and the rooms are clean and well presented. The restaurant can become chaotic at times and the staff almost overwhelmed. Food also just about OK - the closest Indian was a welcome option!

Hotel was perfect, friendly knowledgeable staff, clean rooms.
Food at the Brewers Faye was not great. Dirty place, dirty plates. Don’t let this put you off staying at the hotel though. Cheaper tickets for Chester Zoo which is around 10 mins away. Chester is around 5 mins, both in the car. Happy to stay in hotel again, but would eat somewhere else.

Room Tip: No lift so if with small kids ask for ground floor room. Ask for discounted Chester Zoo tickets.

on arrival we were met at the desk by a very friendly receptionist, and although very busy she made time for every party explaining about our rooms, and breakfast following morning which was taken in the pub ajacent to the travel lodge, after checking in ,she then rang taxi,s for us all.all our four rooms were spotless, the weekend would have been perfect but for the heavy rain and thunderstorm mid sunday afternoon which caused the races to be abandond, but we shall stay at this travel lodge when we plan our next visit.

Great hotel spotlessly clean, the hotel staff were also friendly and well informed. Unfortunately I chose to use the bar twice and the breakfast twice. In the evening the bar staff went AWOL, when he did turn up he was not particularly friendly & no opology. The shortages on the breakfast were constant. What food was there was slow moving items that were dried up and should have been replaced. The staff were also grumpy. I overheard one staff member complain to another that there were 70 odd breakfasts booked with 150 odd staying " in the house" as possible walk ins for breakfast with only him on the front line the next day until 9am, no wonder staff are grumpy and could not cope. I will not use a premierinn buffet style breakfast again. If I stay here again I will go to Sainsburys across the road.
