“WEEKEND BREAK”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

I booked this hotel for my hubby's birthday treat before I read any reviews, but I was not disappointed. The hotel is easy to reach and they have a large car park so it's easy to find places to park. The booking in was simple and they even took my bag up to the room whilst our room was being prepared. The bedroom was on the fifth floor but there was a lift so no problem there. The room was a standard room but everything was provided from iron to toiletries and tea and coffee making facilities. Heating was provided and our bed was comfy to sleep in. The next day our breakfast was delicious and there was plenty of it. Yes, we too had a note requesting us to dine early, but as we are early risers this was not a problem. The hotel was very busy and the bar was full so they must be doing something right| We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will return again.

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the canal would be nice.

We selected this hotel after reviewing those listed in Chester on Tripadvisor. Smart, extremely well located hotel with a wide range of facilities. Free secure parking a huge plus. The canal/Venice/cruise theme was subtle and not too cheesy.

Recommend upgrading to a club room. Well worth the small charge. Very spacious.

Arrival dealt with very efficiently.

Wished we'd had time to sample the health club facilities. This hotel packs a lot in given that it is in the city centre.

OK some negative comments: We found a previous guest's shirt still hanging in the wardrobe on arrival and it took two reminders before it was removed. There were crisp and biscuit wrappers and receipts under the bed. "Real ale" pub still only a clinical hotel bar. Restaurant tea and coffee undrinkable and the after dinner "expresso" was laughable. Nothing more than dregs in the bottom of a standard cup.

Positives: Staff in the main restaurant and reception were spot on with efficiency and friendliness. Lovely food and will return probably in the summer to enjoy some strolling beside the canal and to visit some of the many bars and restaurants nearby.

Don't be put off by my negative comments. The good far outweigh them for a bit of work improving the standards of housekeeping and some decent coffee are easily achieved.

A very pleasant stay.

Room Tip: Club room. Some at the end of a corridor are quirky shaped and very spacious.

Friendly staff, cheap as chips to eat at the bar, food very good value. Rooms very dated. First room no shower curtain, remains of some ladies hair all over the bathhroom and a windoe that would not shut. Changed the room with no hassle.

Stayed here for two nights in mid feb 2013. We booked through laterooms which was an easy process. When we arrived we had no problem parking on the on site car park, lovely bonus that it was free to use! Check in was smooth and our room was spacious and adequate.

We used the complimentary spa facilities on our first evening; they're not the largest facilities but plenty of space and was not over crowded when we visited. Lovely staff at the spa reception too.

Breakfast was average and let the overall hotel experience down. Plenty of cooked breakfast but no vegetarian option. Continental options were a joke- one little basket of baked goods (guarded by staff!) and a plate of old looking cheese and ham- also very little in the way of fresh fruit.

We ate at the main restaurant one evening and had an enjoyable meal which was reasonably priced.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again, but it would be nice if breakfast options could be improved! Overall though, a lovely stay.

We have just returned from one night at the Mill Hotel in Chester and it lived up to the good reviews it has received in the past. Our room was on the small side ,probably only to be expected from a standard room but it still had everything you could want. Sky TV was a bit " speckled" but watchable and on the bonus side we picked up the WiFi very well. Excellent pool and gym and the hotel bar was more like a friendly pub, very popular, excellent prices (cheaper than the city pubs) and good food ( light snack)
The breakfast was also very good. The staff and service throughout were friendly and helpful with immediate attention to a small problem with a radiator. All in all an excellent choice for a city break in Chester and we would definitely use it again.

We booked a last minute room and were offered an executive overlooking the canal for £90 which I thought would be worth the extra. Unfortunately our room, 430, was disappointing, in as much as the bathroom was tiny - the whole room was an odd shape due to the proximity of the lift and the bathroom suffered as a consequence. There was no bath which was disappointing. The shower cabinet was about as small as you get and the sink was tiny, making it virtually impossible to even wash your face. There was nowhere to put toiletries either in the bathroom or in the shower cubicle. On the plus side the furniture in the actual room was good quality and the bed comfortable. The spa facilities were a bonus, although the changing room was chilly. The breakfast was uninspiring and pretty tasteless and the bacon under
cooked. I've stayed before but I am not convinced I will stay again, there are a lot of hotels out there in this price range, I really think The Mill could buck up their ideas a little.

Room Tip: Avoid 430 - so called 'executive' as I believe it to have the smallest bathroom ever!
