We stayed at the Cheshire Cat for one night on our way through England to catch a ferry at Dover. We had just arrived having travelled eight hours on the ferry from Belfast and needless to say we were all a bit frazzled especially considering we were travelling with an eleven month old baby. The reception and hospitality we received when we arrived were absolutely second to none, in fact it is one of the best places I have stayed. We were quickly checked in and shown to our room - which when booked was agreed to be big enough for a small travel cot for our baby which we had brought along - the room was huge, had two double beds and could probably have fitted another in!
When it came to dining, given the long trip our baby was completely exhausted however it was no trouble for meals to be brought to our room and to receive a phone call to ensure the meals were ok.
The staff at this place are fantastic especially the guy who appeared to be manager - nothing was too much trouble and he was on the ball the entire time addressing any needs that any residents had. I would thoroughly recommend the Cheshire Cat and intend visiting Chester sometime soon simply to stay here for a few days

Me and my other half stopped here for one night over the easter bank holiday. The hotel is ideally located being only a 10 minute drive from the city centre of Chester and a 5/10 minute drive to Cheshire Oaks shopping outlet.
There is a park and ride within walking distance of the hotel (5/10 mins walk) that can take you into Chester centre.
The accomodation itself was excellent. The rooms were spotlessly clean and tea/coffee, biscuits were included. The tv in the room also includes sky sports which was good for me as I watched some of the cricket whilst the other half was dolling herself up in the mirror.
The rooms are a little different to your typical hotel. Upon opening the door to our room you were greeted with some stairs. Up the stairs, to the left was the bedroom itself and to the right the bathroom.
The bathroom itself was clean and of a good size. The electric (easy to control) shower, ensured the water temperature was easily controlled and avoided those "hoo haaa "shower moments, due to being too hot or too cold.
As for the bar/restaurant..we found them excellent. The food was reasonably priced and of a very high standard. (Approx £8.50 for char grilled sirloin steak). The bar stocked a wide selection of almost every drink you can imagine and even though it was a busy bank holiday, the service was very quick both in the bar and the restaurant. Behind the hotel is a canal which stretches right the way into Chester. The canal makes for a nice leisurely walk to burn off those calories.
In the grounds of the hotel are plenty of benches, so you can sit outside and relax, weather permitting of course.
I have no hesitations in recommending this hotel. For £59 for the room (including a nice continental breakfast and a free newspaper) it puts many other hotel chains to shame.
I'm already planning my return visit later in the year.

stayed here a number of times. Position is good. Food excellent and accomodation is value for money. Rooms all decorated traditionally. Lovely walk into Christlton village along the canal and nice to sit out and have a meal and drink in the summer.
Will be going for many years to come

This was the cheapest place we found to stay in Chester, so we were pleasantly surprised to see the quality of this venue and the location.
It's a little bit out of town, but a 45min walk along the canal gets you into town.
The staff were very friendly - the pub was clean - the food was good.
Would certainly stay here again when next in Chester.

We have recently moved out of Chester a couple of months ago, but use to visit the Cheshire Cat regularly. The food was excellent and the staff friendly. The service was usually good, but a warning - don't agree to have your drinks brought to your table, you might see these after 20 minutes!!!!

We decided to stay here overnight as we were going to a wedding at Rowton Hall (vertually opposite). We chose to book in after the meal, but before the evening do (we were told we could book in before 11pm). The Cheshire Cat was a comfortable 5 minute walk from Rowton Hall.

We booked in and were told of the pass codes for both the back door and the internal door within the pub (we had a room in the pub rather than a 'cottage'). The room we were shown was Room 5 (The Hedgehog). I think the room name said it all. The room was very small and dark, with a small windown no bigger than a foot by a foot in size, with a view of the roof. The room was in the loft space and as they had been painting that day was full of paint fumes. Definately not worth the £58 a night!!!!

We asked the asked to move rooms as the paint fumes were very noxious. The manager agreed and we were shown Room 2 (The Merlin). This was a very spacious room with a large window looking over the grounds of the restaurant to the Whitchurch Road, then beyond to the fields - much better! The paint fumes had also had chance to dissipate.

Overall, we were happy with our stay. The bed was very comfortable.

For breakfast, a continental breakfast had been laid on. It was a shame that a reduced price cooked breakfast was not offered considering the quality of the lunchs and evening meals. It may have been considered a way of keeping people coming back to offer a discounted cooked breakfast when a room is booked!

We would consider staying here again and would either try a cottage or a larger room. We will definately avoid Room 5!
