“Good for a short family break.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed March 19, 2013 via mobile

Used the hotel as a base for a visit from Scotland to Chester and the zoo. Hotel is well located for both the zoo and the centre of Chester.
We gourd the hotel to be clean and tidy although the corridors could take some cosmetic updating.
The room was clean and well maintained with the usual refreshment facilities and a free mars bar.
Pool was good although small and some guests didn't appreciate us being in with our kids. No need for grumpiness I'm sure they were young nice too and the pool is provided for all.
Bar was nice but expensive.
Food was good but beware the DBB option as you are limited to a small selection from the menu and have to pay £2.50per course if you want something else even if it makes it more expensive than the advertised price. Kids eat for free - there is a very small choice on their menu, we ended up paying for an adult dessert on the second night as they didn't want any of the 3 on their menu.
Breakfast was good with a good selection.
Would recommend for a short stay with kids.

As we have stayed in many Holiday Inns across the country I would only rate this one as average.
The rooms were ok, nice bathroom and tea/coffee making facilities. However the heating was constantly on full and we were unable to change this. It seemed even the corridors were boiling.
In the mornings we would be woken many times by noisy maids in the corridors who seemed to talk very loudly and bang things around when people may be sleeping?!
On arrival we were unaware there has been a breakout of norovirus at the hotel and the day we checked out they were closing the hotel for a deep clean - we were a bit unnerved when seeing people coming in wearing full 'boiler type' suits.
We thought the hotel seemed clean enough however the day we got home my husband became ill with sickness and diahorrea - not the best ending to our week off together.
The one good thing about the hotel is the location - only a 10 minute drive from Chester Zoo, Chester Aquarium and the city centre.
However it is safe to say we will not be staying at this hotel again!

Very easy access, great swimming pool, sauna etc; breakfast was excellent!!!! We travelled with our daughter and son in law with their 6week old baby, and were looked after very well indeed.
Good size rooms and plenty of parking and so near to Chester centre.
Would definitely use again.

Well sorry to say but this hotel was just average in my opinion, i have stayed in Holiday Inns before and i have to say this was very average the building itself looked like and old 70s type build,no offence intended about foreign people but the only english person i spoke to was the barman,The room was clean once we got to it which was a long walk along many corridors, although the heating which was ok for me even though it was really hot was not good for my husband and we couldnt turn the heater off .The pool was nice and the breakfast was nice the bar prices for meals and drinks was very expensive we had a whisky a lemonade and a shared platter if fish gougons n chips and it cost £22 i nearly fell over all in all just an average stay it was more travel lodge than holiday inn standard

Went in October half term stayed two nights. Family room had a double, a bed setter and a camp bed and we had enough space. We ate at hotel both nights in bar and food was excellent and kids eat free with adult meal. Staff friendly but busy busy weekend so they were full to bursting with families, couples and a fun hen do. We got the deal on superbreak site with zoo tickets thrown in which was a brilliant price. Breakfast buffet style and plentiful. Pool and Jacuzzi a lovely bonus for worn out mum - me!!! If I had to be picky, location is too far from Chester to walk, but we did find the park and ride bus stop within five min walk anyway. Bar prices high as you are trapped there. We jumped over the wall to the petrol station/shop next door for some cheaper wine but they don't sell it. However we weren't there to get drunk so it wasn't a great problem and the park and ride in Chester back to the hotel is outside a Tesco express so you could buy booze and drink in your room if you so desired. Would we go back? YEAH YEAH YEAH , plus the zoo was great but we picked the wettest day in October to visit with two tired kids so no matter how much my partner did johnny Morris voices., the kids could barely raise a smile. But don't let the negative reviews put you off a fantastic family weekend. Enjoy x

Ideally situated for the motorway network and adjacent to the park and ride into Chester.
rooms small but well appointed and clean.
Bar meal was excellent and the service first class.
Price was very reasonable thanks to website offer. Would not have liked to pay full price of room at £140.

We stayed here for 2 nights when we traveled to the area for a family wedding. The outside looks a little dated but inside looks nice enough. We had a nice room at the end of a corridor that was spacious. A good double bed with sofa bed which made for enough seats when other family came to say hi and talk about the weekends plans. A few points, freeview TV could have done with a few more channels on offer, lamp over bed needed new bulb, shower controls were not clear and heated towel rail was not connected. Buffet breakfast was good on both mornings and the meal we had there on one of the nights was very nice indeed. I took the opportunity to use the Spirit health club on both mornings and i enjoyed this, gym looked like a good size but I did not use as i only had swimming shorts. Nice size pool for the hotel and sauna was also very nice. A hen party checked in at the same time as us but have to say hotel was very quiet and staff helpful. Would stay here again as we enjoyed this stay.
