“Tranquility in the city”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 23, 2013

What a beautiful cathedral right in the centre of town so no excuse to miss it! Delightful sights throughout with a lovely tranquil garden in the middle with a fountain. Well worth a visit. £3 donation upon entering, not compulsory.

“A magnificent building”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 21, 2013

Again as many cathedrals today entry is free but a suggested donation is appreciated which is as it should be so as not to keep those who need a place of quiet away thinking they may have to pay every time they seek solace. The Cathedral stands grandly just inside the Roman Wall restored to its former glory in the 19th century but retaining some of the original 14th century features thanks to Sir George Gilbert Scott and his grandson Giles. The cloister garden is another delightful place of peace and tranquility even on a wet day as it was when we visited. The Refectory is an inviting place to enjoy a bite to eat and there is also a well stocked shop.

The cathedral is obviously still a vibrant place to worship in. The staff are friendly and helpful. A great place to visit.

I visited Chester Cathedral which is beautiful. Somebody played the organ. The cloister is magnificent. The Refectory hosts a nice restaurant and a place to have morning coffee and tea.

Atmospheric and beautifully preserved, only sorry we couldn't make a service. There is a lovely restaurant I wish we hadn't eaten prior to the visit so we could have sampled their wares.
