“Another Great Stay”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2008

Having stayed in this hotel one time before, I had no hesitation in booking it again for a shopping break with my friend. Our twin room overlooked the main street, and although busy and a bit noisy late on at night, we found it ideal. The breakfast was great, the service from the staff was without fault and it is in such a good location for both shopping and the night life.

Checked Trip Advisor and the recent reviews seemed decent, and the price of £88.00 Bed & Breakfast seemed good so we made our booking.

For this money I think the hotel is excellent, the location is fantastic with the shops about 100 yards away and some lovely restaurants not too much further in the other direction.

The Hotel is tricky to find so we followed the web instructions of getting close then phoning the hotel to be guided in. The lady on reception did this extremely well and we pulled up outside without a problem. Reception looked after our bags whilst we took our car to the car-park all of 500 yards around the corner.

Our room (No.307) was great, lots of room and the biggest hotel bathroom I’ve ever had. I’m pleased that our room was to the rear of the hotel as there are some loud bars very close by (Pregnant wife needs her sleep, normally we’d be there with everyone else!!!!). Having said that I’m sure the hotel has top grade glazing as everything else with the hotel was quality.

In short we’d happily stay again; the place had a really nice quality feel to it. The staff were excellent.

When I booked the hotel on the website there was an area for any special requests where i wrote it that it would be my birthday on the night of our stay. When we booked in the girl at reception asked me if it was my birthday and wished me many happy returns, and then when we got to our room we had clearly been upgraded to an extremely lovely suite! I had only booked a normal room on a £88 per room B&B rate so was so surprised to see they had put us in such a lovely room. The bathroom was really large and there was a seperate living area with chairs, a settee and a plasma telly then there was an archway into the bedroom where we had a four poster bed and another plasma telly - not sure why we needed two but it added to the luxuary! The room was lovely decorated and had clearly been updated recently. The other hotel areas we saw such as the reception area, lobby, bar and restaurant were also really nice - exactly what you'd expect from a high quality hotel. We only had one problem with the room, which was that it over looked the busy street below, just off the main street in Chester and there was also a nightclub over the road. On a normal sunday night I doubt there would be a problem but as it was a bank holiday it seemed like there was hundreds of people walking past the hotel all night, obviously drunk and singing - the windows did nothing to block out the sound - we might as well have been laying in a bed in the middle of the street! So even though the room was amazing, the sound from the street below was so loud it did mean we had a terrible nights sleep. Then in the morning we had to remind the waitress a couple of times to get our tea and toast, they were clearly busy and we saw people who came in after us get served before us. This was obviously noted though as when we went to pay for the carpark they said they would waiver the charge as we had to wait for our breakfast so that was nice! So all in all, a really lovely hotel - just a shame about the outside noise but then I suppose you have to expect that of a hotel smack bang in the middle of the town centre!

  • Liked — the luxuary bedroom!
  • Disliked — the outside noise - get better windows!

Firstly - great location. Secondly - good sized, well priced rooms (booked though the mcdondald website). Thirdly - courteous, helpful staff.

Ifs and buts...a little noisy, location wise; refurb is unusual - update traditional/30s feel...not the modern style indicated on the web blurb but just fine.

Recommended.
