This was another booking made entirely on the strength of tripadvisor reviews. My boyfriend booked a surprise overnight stay so I immediately consulted tripadvisor and when I saw it was the #1 hotel in Chester my expectations were both heightened and lowered at the same time; naturally I assumed the place would be too good to be true but I'm very pleased to say that all the praise is well deserved.
We checked in around 5pm after spending a gloriously sunny afternoon in Chester and my first reaction was that the hotel is much bigger than it looks from the outside.
A member of staff gave us a quick tour of the ground floor, which was well appointed and had a very cosy feel, then showed us to our room on the top floor of the building. Each room is named after a different estate and we were staying in the Adlington Room.
The room was really special, especially the little alcove with the lowered ceiling in the corner, very romantic! The room is very tastefully decorated in cream and blue and the bed was large and comfortable.
The bathroom was a good size, the shower was suitably powerful and all the Elemis products provided were full size and available for purchase downstairs if desired.
My favourite part of the room has to be the gorgeous bear that sits on the bed and is yours for the duration of your stay (though I desperately wanted to take him home). The whole hotel has an extremely homely feel and the teddy bear was certainly the icing on the cake.
My b/f had booked the 'Luxury Love' package which included a night's stay, flowers, champagne & chocolates on arrival, dinner from the Prestige menu in the restaurant that evening (which I'll describe in a separate review), and finally breakfast the following morning which offered a huge variety of hot and cold options (all of the hot options were delicious and prepared exactly as requested).
Given the amount of extras included in our package, I think the hotel is exceptionally good value, the staff are superb and clearly take great care in their work. Overall I can't really find any fault with my stay.
My only comment I would make is that the tv in our room was quite low and (had we switched it on) it would have meant watching through the bedstead if we had wanted to watch tv in bed.
I would be delighted to return to the hotel and experience the other rooms. I'd also really like to know where I can get one of the teddies from!
