“Pretty average really & nothing special!”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 26, 2013

Visited on the secret escapes deal, room was large and lovely. However, check in was pretty random. On reading the Trip advisor reviews, had emailed a week before our stay to ask that tea and coffee facilities were available in the room as apparently you have to ask for them?! On check in I also asked, they weren't in the room and never arrived. How many times do you need to ask? Apparently the comfy beds are the best? Ummmm, really? Slept in much luxurious beds around the world in 5* hotels.

What happened to the lovely petit fours served after dinner? What a disappointing evening finished with a biscuit and coffee if only you could turn back time to when this restaurant was second to none

We recently took our parents for a weekend away as a thank you. Having never been to Chester before the hotel was in the perfect location in the city centre to explore what the city has to offer.

The hotel itself is everything you would expect from a 5 star hotel. The rooms are spacious and very comfortable and the staff are extremely helpful.

The food is fantastic from a lovely full english breakfast in the morning to start the day to a delightful michelin star restaurant to end your evening in.

We will certainly stay at the hotel again if we are in the area.

We stayed 2 nights in October in a delux room on a special deal. The whole hotel from the reception to bedroom was of a very high standard and the service was effiecent and friendly. The bed was comfy and our room was reasonably quite. We ate one evening meal in the brasserie, which was convenient and classy and the food was very good; if a little pricey. Assuming you are there to explore Chester and its shops, one of the best things about the hotel is the location, as it is right in the centre of the town. Parking is easy via the muti-story behind the hotel which has a private entrance from the second level direct into the hotel itself. There weren't many bad points, but we really don't like showers that only have a ceiling mounted drench head. At least the flow was good. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would recommend the hotel, but wouldn't give it 5 stars as at the full rate of £265 per night it is hard to say it is good value for money.

Booked a birthday stay package deal with a meal in the Brasserie here for a Friday night. Decent value package on the face of it at this 5 star establishment.
The hotel, rooms, restaurants interiors are all classy. The welcome is warm and high class.
The bed itself - huge as it is in the standard classic room - is soft for our liking. Shame we didn't ask prior to booking if other types of mattress were available.
Dinner in the Brasserie was OKish but the review of that is elsewhere. Drinks prior to dinner in the posh bar adjacent to the main Michelin star restaurant were great, though the maitre'D's nose was somewhat turned up when we revealed we were dining not in the restaurant but in the brasserie.
Upon retiring for the night we heard a party in a room nearby. We waited for a while as it was still prior to 11pm. At 11.30pm we phoned reception to complain, and somewhere post-midnight perhaps 1h later the noise ended. A good night's sleep was already ruined though.
Breakfast was ok, though again waited ages for more coffee (drinks delivery slowness a speciality here).
Upon checkout, quirkily at a cashier desk separate to check-in, we were told by the staff member that "they've asked me to apologise for the disruption but nothing else". By "they" I presume he meant the hotel. We complained that we did not appreciate the noise and disruption at such an establishment and were astonished by it and the response, but were not offered any more compensatory action nor gestures.
We won't be back here, though we would not be visiting the same town too soon anyway on a weekend away trip. We will be writing to the manager separately to complain.

We stayed for one night; on arriving very early we were quickly booked in and our luggage put to one side. On booking in we too could not believe that £200 was immediately held on our debit card, we have never experienced this before and have stayed in equally if not better standard hotels, we felt that this was definitely below the mark and may not be debited back into the account for up to 10 days, so please be aware.
We felt that the room was nice but there was no bottled water, oh yes indeed take it from the fridge but that would mean payment, also the amenity try of tea/coffee had to be asked for, no continuation of this through the stay.
The overall view we felt of this hotel was yes, it was quite lavish in places, the breakfast was good, service a reasonable standard but we expected......more and did not get.
Yes, in a very central position in Chester which was a plus, would we stay again no.
We felt rather over rated and over priced, did not deliver, but were ready to take away.

From our arrival to departure the staff, without exception, were friendly and helpful. Our room was luxurious with all our needs catered for. I would certainly recommend this hotel for a city break, it has everything one expects of a 5* Hotel but without the high price tag of similar ones we have stayed in in other cities.
