“Good Real Ale, Nice Food and Dog Friendly - Ticks all the Boxes!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 27, 2013

Been for a lovely walk with family and dogs and decided on the spur of the moment to have some lunch. The Sandstone was the nearest venue and we were not disappointed. Food was tasty and fresh, small selection of guest beers and very friendly service. Prices were about the norm. The fact that the food took a while to arrive I saw as a positive, i.e. too quick and it probably all has been in the microwave.

“best ever sunday lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2013

We called in for Sunday lunch after going for a walk along the sandstone trail. The place was packed, but the waitress manage to fit us in, I don’t usually have a Sunday a roast as most places I’ve been have been a letdown, however we all opted for the roast, and I’m so glad we did, everything was just how you would want your roast dinner to be, and the waitress was very attentive, they even came back to check on us and asked us if we wanted any more vegetables or an extra gravy boat. What a fantastic little pub, great staff, beautiful decor, really good looking menu, an all round little gem of a pub, can’t wait to go back, would highly recommend this place to any one of my friends

“skip the roast”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed October 22, 2013

we went here because of all the lovely reviews but should have gone somewhere else. don't get me wrong, it's a nice restaurant. But we had the Sunday roast. The beef and the lamb were cold and the roast potatoes weren't great. The vegetables were OK, but would have preferred a better selection. They were also very limp and some a bit mushy. The service was good and food did come out quickly. But the food let it down. I think we will stick to the Carvery at the Bickerton Poacher. It's much cheaper, better vegetables, more choice and much better quality. Probably won't be back.

“Nice place”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed October 21, 2013

Went in here after going walking in the hills. It was OK, not many people were around. There wasnt even anyone serving. Waited about 10 minutes before someone came to serve us, good pint but a bit expensive. Thought I'd try cheese pie and it was a bit weird. Not really sure what to make of it. Nice pub but not for me.
