“Great little hotel and pub”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2011

Loved the larger than expected room that had a large new bathroom and multiple rooms. John the owner was extremely friendly and helpful and the pub great atmosphere. Great English breakfast in the morning.

Would have stayed here another night if we weren't on a tight schedule to get to North Wales.

Rang five days in advance to book and agree a price for 2 rooms, left a credit card number and was told that I would not be billed anything.

Rooms average, no black-out screen against one window and difficult door lock.

Went to settle up and despite being told to the contrary, a small amount had been debited against my card the day I booked.

We were also overcharged a tenner on the pre-agreed price (I had written the price down and doubled checked at time of booking).

Didn't want to argue just wanted to leave.

We five ladies arrived on a very hot Saturday morning and, although registration time was later, we were able to access our rooms and offered tea and coffee in the beer garden at the rear of the pub.

The welcome we received from the owner, his family and staff was very warm and friendly, much better than I expected. In fact, the owner went out of his way to assist one member of our party collect a ticket which she had left at home and without which her weekend would have been thoroughly spoiled. I don't know of anyone else who would have offered to drive her to collect the ticket then take her to the venue. Well above and beyond the call of duty!

My room was clean, confortable and quiet. Our cooked breakfast the next morning was excellent and plentiful and served with cheerfulness which is more than can be said of some larger establishments whose staff can be 'distant'.

We hope to plan another overnight stay but with more of us next time.

went to chester for our anniversary , thought we would stay at the pub , as it was in a village, the village is very nice, but the room we had was in an out building which was at the back of the pub and the carpark has broken furniture in it, not nice at all, the room was large so was the bathroom it was reasonably clean but the the towels weren't of hotel quality ,neither was the bedding miss matched and looked like the pillowcases were not to clean and bottom sheet not to nice either i wasn't sleeping in this, so we lelf .

After seeing The White Horse on another website I booked two double rooms. Apon arrival only one booking had been confirmed. When parking we were unsure where to park as there was what looked like half a building site and lots of bins all over the carpark. After the Owner had done some thinking he showed us to our rooms. Tidy, but not overly clean... cobwebs, hairs, unclean bathrooms and damp bedlining. We had light fittings hanging from the celling. This could be a perfect little pub with rooms if some time had been spent tidying up and organsiing the running of the pub. Its location is the saving grace for the inn or we would of left.

My husband and I stayed here for 2 nights so that we could have a good look around Chester. The location is good, only a few miles from Chester, we wanted a quiet village to stay in but still close to the city. The room we were in has recently been done up, its beautiful, there was a lot of room for us to have our big suitcases in there without tripping over them. The bed was comfy and the decor was really nice. The bathroom was very roomy but i still dont understand why there is carpet on the floor. The bar was being done up while we were there but the owner still managed to have it open for business at 5pm and put his apron on, set us a nice little table and cook up breakfast in the morning, which was a good plate of bacon, eggs, sausages, toast and coffee. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting to visit Chester. If i ever get back to the UK, this is one place i will definately stay again.
