I usually dread staying in Travelodges as they are invariably situated next to busy main roads or railway lines and the soundproofing is totally inadequate, but despite overlooking a busy road (nice view of some Roman ruins though!) I was not disturbed at all by the traffic. Gigantic, high ceiling room and bathroom with bath, otherwise typical Travelodge fixtures and fittings (nothing much) and the one bar of soap. Poor selection of TV channels, and very small screen TV, which cannot be viewed if you sit at the desk (shelf). I don't know why Travelodge room layouts are often so ill considered. I had problems with the temperature in the room when I arrived, couldn't figure out the air conditioning system as the instructions were not clear, but when I eventually found a staff member at reception they immediately brought a portable heater and sorted out the controls. The 'new' bed and bedding was indeed very comfortable. Location good, just around the corner from the main shopping streets, less than 15 minutes walk from the station. No breakfast available apart from overpriced bags containing not very much - if you can wait till 9, BHS is not far away and has a reasonably priced selection. This is one Travelodge that I might stay at again, especially as I paid on £37 for a flexible mid week booking.
