Description: At Zizzi we like to do things a little differently. We don’t do over-complicated recipes or scrimpy portion sizes. We’re all about the well-chosen ingredients, simply put together to make exceptional Italian food. Our Chester restaurant is so close to the old Roman wall that, if it were a person, it’d be sitting on it. Only ½ a mile from the nearest train station it’s the perfect stop on your day out in Chester. Around the restaurant you’ll find nods to the local horse racing and Chester Theatre. And of course, our designers were inspired by Chester’s Roman history, with something that important you have to pay homage.

“Very disappointing”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed June 18, 2013

Had a vibe it would be pretty mainstream Italian that's why we went on the tastecard to soften the disappointment blow.

Hideously small pizza on a par with frozen section at your local supermarket. Partner's salad ok but how can you really get that wrong. Wine , as in most places these days was extortion. Would have been bitter paying full price & still wouldn't return with the tastecard, indeed be hard pushed if it was free.

“Modestly creative”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed June 16, 2013

We chose this restaurant after a long city walk and checking all possible alternatives for a quiet dinner. It was a good choice. The restaurant offers a variety of plates; all genuinely italian. There are traces of creative cuisine too; with regard to shapes, serving ideas and combinations. But do not be afraid; this does not shadow its southern essence.
There is a stove (it appeared to be wood burning but the flavours do not give a clue about it) on the center of everything; pizza, bread and many starters and sharing plates come out of it. We were three and each of us was content with the food. The service staff was nice but probably somewhat tired after a busy day. Anyway, I have nothing to complain; it was a good evening with tasty food, italian beer in a relaxed environment.

“What happened to Zizzi?”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed June 1, 2013 via mobile

This used to be the best pizzeria in the city. And quite frankly one of the best in the country. I was born and raised in Italy and worked in the pizza business. So I know what I'm talking about. The new menu at Zizzi is depressing. It looks like they are trying to mock Pizza Hut and Domino's (FYI: that is NOT pizza!). Chicken, meatballs and other wierd stuff should not stay on a decent pizza. I guess they are trying to make money over the poor taste of many. But people loved the pizzas from the old menu at Zizzi! It was just great. So either you stick to the tradion or, please, don't say you are an Italian restaurant. (Many dishes are in fact unconvincing creations with an Italianish name)
Good desserts and well-mannered service.

“Possible food poisoning”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed May 31, 2013 via mobile

My girlfriend and I came to this restaurant for a meal on Wednesday and was terrible to be honest, my girlfriend ate only half her pizza because she was practically sweating for trying to cut it! And after eating the seafood risotto, a half hour later I started to feel unwell and 2 days later am still unwell I'm not placing blame on the restaurant for this however some of the mussels were grey which is an indicator of them being dead longer than advised, lovely waitress though, terrible food that's now rotting on top of a Chester city bin, thank you.

“Service for 8, including 4 Kids, EX-CELL-ENT!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

we turned up without a reservation on bank holiday sunday, although not the most enthusiastic welcome (noted by all adults & 1 nipper) once seated the service was really excellent. we were sensibly given a table away from the more romantic diners and the children's menu was ideal for our group; all dishes came out quickly - when the eldest son wanted more pasta the waitress immediately sorted it out. one of the adult pizzas was not to spec and again it was put right immediately without any fuss. all of the pizzas that were ordered were of superb quality. not the cheapest meal but the quality of the food combined with the attentative service made it a surprising treat! decent enough wine list and good Italian beer.
