Beautiful setting ...fantastic friendly staff ..lovely food..

We often visit the swan for a drink in the evening as the bar staff are always very welcoming and friendly so we decided to eat there , We hadn't booked a table but the staff were more than happy to fit us in .. The views over the river are just perfect on a summers evening to enjoy with a meal .... My husband had steak and chips which was cooked just as he asked and I had the burger which again was cooked perfectly and was very tasty With a lovely fresh salad, the homemade chips were the best I have tasted in a long while .. Service was very attentive throughout our meal and I would highly recommend the Swan on the river for a meal out or just drinks with friends and family and we will definitely be visiting there again in the near future.

I'm sorry to hear about your so called bad experience but did you actually complain on the day for it to be sorted out?....

“It's a shame”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 12, 2014

Recently moved to Littleport and was pleased to have this pub so local to us as its in a beautiful location with lots of outside seating and nice for the children to sit and play on the grass. It's quite expensive but you expect to pay more to be near the river just like the Cutter in Ely. We took my parents to the Swan and they decided to eat, we hadn't tried the food so couldn't advise them on what to have so my mother chose the ploughmans and my dad had the prawn sandwich (no baguettes on menu ) the brown bread was stale and was happily replaced with fresh white bread which was much better, but the salad garnish needed washing and some dressing would of been nice. The ploughmans was disappointing, for £7.50 it consisted of 3 cheeses but the cheddar was very old and dry, no butter for the one thin slice of stale brown bread, a gherkin sliced, a small pot of strange pickle/chutney, salad leaves no tomatoes or cucumber, no dressing no pickled onions, no coleslaw and it was served on a tiny grey slate thing. I feel the owners of the Swan only own this as a hobby as we have been here five/six times and have never seen a landlord or landlady working behind the bar. I also find it odd that they close in the afternoons in the summer especially when the summer hols are on and the river is busy, (make hay while the sun shines) plus closing at 9pm on a Sunday is a little behind the times. It's run by a very young team and most of them are very polite but a couple of them need some training, it's a shame because this pub could be brilliant.

“Friendly service but poor menu”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed August 11, 2014

The restaurant is in an excellent position, right on the riverbank on the outskirts of Littleport. It is great to watch the world go by sat outside by the river or through the windows of the dining area.

The service was friendly and attentive which was especially nice to see from such young staff.

We ate on a Sunday evening so the specials were not available which left a very limited menu. The potion sizes are quite large but we found the food quite stodgy, with not much flavour.

It could offer so much more as the staff and surroundings were great but the menu would benefit from a fresher, local flavour and presented in a better way
