“midsummer meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 11, 2014

Came here for birthday lunch as fully booked in evenings until for next 3 months. Always wanted to try a Michelin starred restaurant and see what Masterchef food is like. Pleased to say we were not disappointed, each course was a delight. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had the 7 course meal with cheese and their recommended wines. Plates maybe small but you soon fill up especially with the wines. Great experience, wish we could afford to take whole family.

“Not as great as last time”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed December 23, 2013

Took hubby here for his birthday dinner and while the food was very good, we could criticise the portion size. There were two 'courses' that we were not especially fond of, but that was personal preference rather than an issue with the food. As I am allergic to scallops I had the monkfish instead - which was really lovely. We enjoyed the smoky quail egg - both for flavour and presentation. Our wine was very nice, however the black muscat was dreadful. Overall a nice evening with good food, however the room does lack a bit of vibrance.

“As Good As We'd Hoped”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013

There was never any doubt that we’d enjoy the food at Midsummer House. Our only concerns were how good it was going to be, whether it was worth the money and if we could make the meal affordable.

Well, first of all the cost. You can spend a lot of money at Midsummer House. For instance, the Taste of Midsummer menu is £90 a head and then there is the cost of wine to add to that. There were certainly fellow diners who did not have our budgetary constraints. One couple seated nearby finished off 2 glasses of champagne, a £300+ bottle of French red and a sweet wine with their meal. But you don’t have to spend that much. There were 3 of us and we managed to keep the total cost to less than £75 per person by having just 4 courses from the lunch menu, the cheapest bottle of wine, petit fours and coffee. The price also included the tip.

And the food? It was fantastic. The plaice with cockles was as good as any similar dish that any of us had eaten and we all agreed that the pork main course was the best pork we’d ever had. We differed in our choice of the final course, but the dessert and cheeses were excellent. The starter which included the cannelloni of goat’s cheese was well cooked although it did not quite live up to the stellar standards of the other dishes.

Was it value for money? Yes, we had some of the best food we’ve ever tasted and there’s often a price for that. The wine was decent but quite expensive and we’ve had much better for half the price in gastro pubs. However, for a restaurant of this quality you expect to pay more. The setting is also lovely and the general ambience makes this more than just a dining experience.

We’d definitely return to Midsummer House. We’ll just have to start saving the pennies for our return!

“Marvellous Michelin Midsummer Dining Experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed December 16, 2013 via mobile

We booked for a table 4 on Saturday evening for my parents Christmas Present. Everything was perfect from beginning to end. The setting was beautiful, service was exceptional and they were extremely welcoming and attentive, even had a tour of the kitchens and met the Head Chef Scott. The food is out of this world, I am hope they get their third star next year as they deserve it. I could not fault this place at all it is outstanding. The food makes this place and was well received by us all. Glad we visited the restaurant and will definitely be recommending to our chef friends!

“A wonderful experience”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 25, 2013

Visited with American relatives. We had a wonderful experience savouring the food which was exceptional. Every thing about Midsummer is great the only fault is that there is only limited parking which is not that near if you have limited mobility . ,but I would walk a mile to get to it
Saving for the next visit
