“Fantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed January 3, 2014

I read so many reviews before booking as this was a Christmas present to my husband, so i was quite worried after reading so many negative reviews
We`ve stayed at Winchester, Henley on Thames and Brighton previously and their service was excellent!
Well, i shouldn`t have been so worried, from the moment we arrived the staff were fantastic, and our room,,,well it looked amazing!
I had sent a few decorations as i wanted to surprise my husband. The staff made the room look beautiful. (we stayed in Madfish) so thank you very much :))
In the evening i realised i`d left something in our car and went to reception to ask if i could get it, they wouldn`t hear of it and brought the item to our room!
Breakfast in the morning was great, my husband loved his full english, whilst i had the smoked haddock.
I`ve read the people had stated it was expensive, but i`d pay that money just for the endless amounts of freshly squeezed orange juice they provide, lush!!
Yes ok the hotel isn`t cheap, but i`d pay this again for an amazing weekend, at an amazing hotel, with a beautiful room, thank you HuV, you made our weekend perfect :))

Room Tip: Madfish, amazing room. Don`t complain about not having water in your room, just buy some!

Almost every year we book a night at Hotel du Vin. It is just nice to have a break from the festivities and go shopping.

There are few changes. Valet parking is a Godsend. It is expensive but about the same as the near by multi storey. The rooms are lovely and the experience is great.

However, this year we decided to have breakfast. I booked and probably didn't look closely. We got charged an extra £8. This was a surprise. We were charged for a cooked breakfast. Apparently the inclusive was a continental breakfast. I just thought this was just a little guest unfriendly.

We will probably go back next Christmas but we will look more closely at North Norfolk and Lastingham

Room Tip: Try not to be too near the kitchens at the back. Windows are not double glazed and they have an extr...

Given that Cambridge does not abound with a plethora of top hotel choices, I unreservedly recommend Hotel du Vin as the #1 choice in Cambridge. Having stayed previously at a couple of other 'top hotels' in the city, HdV was the only one where the hotel, rooms, restaurant, bar, and service were all on point. Granted, its prices reflect that higher level of offerings, but I consider the additional expense well-worth it in this case. Though it is ever-so-slightly out of the core city centre, it's well within walking distance, and the slight separation also means one doesn't have to be in the midst of the tourist crowds. Will definitely stay here again when I come back to Cam.

Room Tip: The stairs are a bit windy, easy to get lost if you have a poor sense of direction ;o)

We visited this hotel for a business meeting and although very quaint, particularly downstairs, there was no wi-fi, which made things a little more tricky. Also the coffees we ordered were generally lukewarm and had to be sent back several times.. Lunch was very good, although the full wine list was a little big and ordered from the shortened version on the menu, which seemed perfectly sufficient - I suppose when you are 'du vin' you have to appear so! We have stayed before (not this time) and the rooms at the back of the hotel are much quieter. Generally though, few complaints.

The best part of this hotel is the staff on reception. If you are travelling by car you need to book valet parking as parking and traffic wardens are a nightmare but if you don't need to visit. Cambridge don't bother as its super tourist unfriendly . We stayed in one of the basement "suites".
Firstly it's not a suite it's a largish room with a sofa at the end of the bed.The little outside space might be ok in the summer if you don't mind that above your head is a bunch of tables belonging to a bar so lots of noise and smokers. The windows are not double glazed so its cold on that side of the room and very noisy. As it's an old building the floors are creaky and we were unfortunate enough to have a baby elephant above who felt the need to keep walking up and down in the early hours of the morning.the room has one spare plug socket on the floor which was a pain as we had to boil the kettle and charge iPads etc all off the same socket. However as the free wifi is completely useless and doesn't work you won't need to worry if your pad runs out of juice. Its beyond me why the top room in the hotel cannot provide free water and feels the need to charge £4 per bottle so I recommend the little shop five minutes up the road?We have stayed in many far superior hotels and always had complementary water. The bed was comfortable but the bathroom is tired and the revolting toilet needs a good bleach and anything but a black toilet seat which is horrid. When you flush the toilet seat and floor are given a good soaking.Newspapers are not complimentary and you are not told that when asked what paper you would like.We went to Bills for breakfast which. I can recommend.Overall the hotel is tired and scruffy and tries to be different but doesn't really pull it off.I won't be staying at another du vin

Stayed here for a relaxing weekend recently and was a bit anxious after reading some of the reviews. We had a lovely stay. Despite booking last minute my request for a room with a bath was met as i am 8 months pregnant. The staff were all friendly and helpful. Our room was spotlessly clean and we ordered breakfast in our room both mornings which arrived on time and was lovely. We ate in the restaurant on the sunday night and again the staff were really friendly. The heating pipes were a bit noisy but didn't disrupt my sleep. Overall an enjoyable stay and would stay here again when visiting Cambridge.

We have stayed at this Hotel du vin over the past five years regularly and have never been disappointed.

In preference we opt to stay in the 'basement' suites as these are tucked away and perfect for a nights stay.

Having stayed in a number if different rooms I would recommend future visitors look at what they want from their stay and research the type of room available as there are a number of different options.

We have always found the service here to be excellent, in particular the Manager and his team are more than willing to go the extra mile to ensure your stay is memorable.

Our stay this time, in late November was, as usual, perfect.
We chose to stay on a Sunday night, as we find most Hotels are quieter then, and by nature there is a more relaxed pace.
We did visit both the bar and Bistro, finding them, as on our previous stays, to deliver a laid back, discreet ambiance.

The location is ideal, just a short stroll from the town centre and easy to find by car when arriving.

All in all this is a Hotel will we continue to visit, as for us, it always delivers!!
