“EXCELLENT”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 7, 2012

Well decorated and very clean hotel.

Friendly staff and an excellent breakfast which comes cooked to order and HOT, hurrah. something that the majority of hotels seem incapable of achieving.

Rooms are of a good size and light and airy.

Well positioned for the city centre a short 10 minute walk away.

We aim to return soon as we thoroughly enjoyed our weekend break and would recommend this hotel.

The only down side is, we agree with other reviewers, that the room used for breakfast would make an ideal dinner room as the current area used for dinner has less of an atmosphere and it seems to us they should switch the areas around

But thats being picky overall brilliant

Clean well located hotel. Room nothing special, as expected for the price. The cooked breakfast was poor though, espresso coffee was an expensive extra on top of the 13.95 breakfast charge. Expected more for £30+ breakfast for two.

This is a well-situated hotel, with helpful staff. I had a pleasant double room at the front of the hotel. There was a great view over Parker’s Piece and I was in no way disturbed by traffic on the main road- that is separated from the hotel by a wide car park.
The room had been refurbished in “modern hotel” style. It all looked smart in a “modern hotel” kind of way. The temperature control worked fine. Oddly, there was no wardrobe and not that much storage to put clothes and so on, though this was not an issue for a short stay, of course. There was a spacious desk for working (and there was free Wi-Fi which worked well) and a comfortable easy chair. Lighting was dotted around the room so that there were pools of light where you needed them. However, the furniture was all very dark, which was an issue for me- when trying to see what was in a drawer or at the back of a shelf, I had to use my torch!

The bathroom was one of the best I have seen in a hotel of this kind. The space was well used to make a modern and functional facility. There was a walk-in shower with easy to use controls (not often you can say that of hotel showers). Plenty of hot water at all times. The water stayed in the shower as well. Well lit too.

Breakfast was fine. Pleasantly and promptly served. Well presented, varied and tasty. There were two dining rooms in operation: the outer one, despite having windows, struck me as gloomy; since I was reading papers for some work, I found the light was better in the inner room, by the buffet.

Room Tip: A room at the front has such a good view.

There seems to be a surprisingly limited choice of hotel in Cambridge, compared with Oxford, when dropping off the student offspring. In this situation, clearly car parking is a must, and one resents paying an extra £20 per day for this privilege. Assuming that one wishes to stay near the middle of the town, this hotel is a very reasonable choice. There is a good size car park, with no charge, and the Wi-Fi is complementary, as indeed it should be these days, although a trifle tedious, requiring a fresh login every time it is used.
Plus points for unfailingly polite and helpful staff, even to the extent of running down the road the newsagents when they had forgotten to order the correct morning paper for us. Also the room had a reasonable sized flat screen television, and the breakfast was very satisfactory [real mushrooms not those tinned button horrors], and the service again excellent.
On the debit side, our room was a tad narrow, and whilst the hanging rail is a reasonable alternative to a wardrobe, the plastic hanger fittings simply won't stand the weight of a coat or mac. The hallways are decorated in a very peculiar mauve colour, which, with the jazzy carpet, and the fluorescent lighting, is decidedly 1970's Dr Who. Because of the narrowness of the room, the bathroom was somewhat small; sensibly, there was a walk-in shower, rather than a bath, but the washbasin wasnt far off British Rail sized, albeit in a granite surface [see picture], and the sliding glass door a bit of a nuisance.
Soundproofing is a bit mixed - two people, possibly a couple, had a very loud [and boring] conversation outside our door at 0130, then went into a room and [presumably he] emptied his bladder noisily. However there didnt seem to be any room-to-room noise, or perhaps they'd finished their chat in the corridor.

I stayed for two nights. It is well located, with good parking, and very spacious clean and comfortable room on the 2nd floor. Friendly service. Very pleased. Only downside was that the tv was a little wayward! It switched itself off a couple of times when I was zapping between channels. There is a safe in the room, which I like to have, so you can leave things securely when not in the room. Nice coffee and hot choc provided too.

I stayed here for one night on business and wish that I had been able to stay longer. The reception was effcient and welcoming, particularly as I arrived late in the eveing after a long drive. The room was large, clean and very comfortable. I had a room service dinner of soup and a sandwich which was spot on and well priced. The staff are great - professional and friendly. I really enjoyed my stay and would not heistate to book again.

Clean and comfortable with friendly and helpful staff. Beware of bathrooms with opaque glass doors that do not close fully across the aperture. Not for the coy and a pain when the bathroom light is on, illuminating the whole bedroom. Wouldn't be so bad "around a corner", but the door opens up on the side of the bed! Easy walking to the City Centre, with free parking in the hotel grounds, are a big plus for the hotel. Breakfast is superb with the dinner menu needing a bit more imagination with possibly some less calorific deserts to supplement the existing deserts.
