Arrived at the hotel for a one night stay to use the place as a base to explore cambridge for a day and use the hotels spa facilities. We got off to a bad start when we were told that all of the spa treatments were unavailable due to a block booking, a bit annoying as this was one of the main reasons we chose the hotel. I pointed out that I had called the day before arrival and discussed what spa facilities were available and a very helpful receptionist gave me a breakdown of all various options and prices - would have been nice if she had pointed out that none of them would be available.

That said the rooms were a decent size and the food was ok for the type of hotel. I generally stay in Hilton hotels and this does not compare, despite being of a similar cost.

Handy for the motorway and Cambridge, but had the feel of a "Travel Tavern " A la Alan Partridge.

just got back from a lovely bank holiday holiday weekend in this resort hotel. the main purpose of our trip was to relax and visit cambridge. we chose this hotel after reading reviews that it was family friendly and close to the town. we booked with the hotel directly a few days before the stay and got a family room, i.e a double bed and extra bed as we have a 2 yr old child. they call this the family exec room, and i would say that we very happy with the size of the room, standard of bathroom, quality of beds!, and although close to the A14 with windows shut you wouldn't notice. we had bathrobes but no slippers as per website!, but generally the room was tastefully redecorated(2006)we stayed on bb basis, served from a decent 7-11am! and quite good. it did not feel as if we were in the lobby (prev review) and staff v efficient. with a little child we were able to extend our checkout time by 1 hr, handy. staff good, helpful. the really good thing about this hotel is if you want to visit cambridge it really is a short drive on the a14 and you are in the town, good if you have car. the hotel does feel like 4 stars and we would recommend it to everyone.

I recently had a family reunion in the area and as we were travelling with 3 young children all aged under 4 years decided to spend the night in the area.

The Menzies was a great choice. We had booked a familiy room however were a allocated one without a sofa bed. We quickly brought this to the hotels attention and the room was changed without delay. The new room having the sofa bed and cot we required. The staff were also quick to bring us extra sheets when requested.

We had booked the Dinner bed and breakfast rate direct with the hotel. The rate was very good and as such the meal was in tune with the amount we paid. Had we not had the children we would probably have eaten out. However the limitations of the menu were made up for byt the excellent waiting staff who ensured our numerous requests were met and were not distracted by our noisy party. Meanwhile the breakfast was an excellent spread.

We ventured to the swimming pool twice and with the childrens and adults pools meant we were easily entertained. We were unable to use the golf course / gym / tennis courts etc. however they all looked well maintained as we passed by..

All in all a good base for the surrounding areas with enough to do on site if you feel lazy. Would definitely come back for a night when we come to visit the family again.

A comfortable and relaxing stay, the room was neat and tidy, but lacked that extra touch that said four star. The staff are pleasant and polite, quite a few of them are from overseas and this creates cultural problems, if you want anything out of their normal routine you might struggle. The Lounge Bar was comfortable and relaxing and the restaurant provided an excellent service and the food was more than acceptable.
