I stayed here for a week, and found it a bargain. Impeccably clean bathroom en suite, lovely breakfast in the morning, friendly staff, clean spacious room with wifi and tv, tea making facilities and storage space. There's also an ironing board and iron outside in the hall for general use. I would definately stay here again.

The location is a 25 minute bus ride from the centre of Cambridge, I bought a Megarider ticket for 12 pounds which gave me unlimited travel for seven days. Overall I didn't find the distance to be a hassle.

I stayed there for 2 nights with my wife and son aged 19, in the triple en-suite room. The room was nicely decorated, had everything needed, bed was very comfortable & no noise to disturb was heard. The hot breakfast was delicious. We had a car so we didn't bother to find out details about the buses running from there, but in our case everything was superb. We would definately stay there again next time we visit our son who is studying at the University there now.

We went to Cambridge for a weekend and stayed at Alder Lodge: we couldn't have chosen a better place to stay.

The room was quiet (despite facing the road), comfortable and impressively clean, completely lacking the typical faint smell of dust of hotel rooms, and the en-suite bathroom was spotless and in pristine condition. As a double room it was quite small and didn't have much storage, but we didn't mind as it was just a short stay.

The owner was very friendly and helpful and the cooked breakfast was excellent and very filling. The set of keys included the front door key, so we were free to come back at any time during the night.

The only downside is that it is a bit far from the centre, not in easy walking distance. However, there is a bus stop in each direction just outside the door and buses to and from the city centre are fairly regular and run until quite late. The same bus line (no. 1) goes directly to the train station. It is possible to buy day rider passes directly from the bus driver (£3.40 each).

We had a lovely stay which was very good value for money and would definitely choose Alder Lodge again.

I booked a night at Alder Lodge as an inexpensive stop over through Late Rooms. It was easy to find from the A14 (avoiding the town centre) and there is plenty of parking. I was pleasantly surprised to be given a large double room instead of the small single that I'd booked - the room was very clean and nicely appointed, with a huge, extremely comfortable bed. There were the usual tea and coffee making bits and bobs, TV with integral DVD player and free wi-fi. There was a good choice of breakfast served in pleasant surroundings - my bacon and eggs were freshly cooked, tasty and served with a smile, lovely. My only gripe was the shower - it was a bit feeble and alternated between scalding and freezing, not a nice experience.
Location-wise, it's not ideal if you don't have a car - there's very little in the immediate area and, although there are buses every ten minutes from right outside, the bus takes ages to get to and from the centre and it's not easy to spot where to get off on the return journey if you don't know the area.
All in all though, a good stay and I would happily recommend to anyone.

I got there later than I said (by nearly an hour - the other reviewer is correct the city centre is not car friendly- though you don't need to go through it if you come off the norther junction).
Its important to note that Kings Hedges is an area as well as a road, so look for the house on the main road - don't go into the residential area.
When I go there I was greeted by a very friendly guy and a comfortable atmosphere. He showed me the room which was perfect. It was a single ensuite room (the second from cheapest) and had a double bed (or large single), a bedside table with kettle tea, coffee, hot chocolate, a glass and a mug. There was a TV placed over the bed with the main 5 channels. The ensuite had a shower, toilet, basin, and accessories (2 shower gels, 2 shampoos, 1 shower cap and a flannel). There were two towels given, a large one and a hand towel and it was good to note that have a green policy whereby you can place a towel to use for a second day - thus reducing washing.

The room was very quiet, despite being on the main road. The next morning I ventured downstairs for breakfast (served between 7 and 8:30) and was greeted by the guy who showed cereal and juice, and gave some fresh milk. Then came back a bit later to asked what hot food I would like. There was a tv downstairs showing the news as well.

Check out at 10:30, when I paid and signed the guestbook, the room by the way was the cheapest by far on the market. (single ensuite room). A fantastic stay, they are really friendly, the rooms are clean and cosy (without being small) I would 100% recommend it to anyone.

Booked this through laterooms (only saved £5 on normal cost but hey). Twin en-suite room £48 for b&b. It's roughly 2.5 miles from city centre. Cab costs an average of £8-9. Bus stop seconds away and it's £1.70 for single fare into city. There's parking for 2 cars on the drive in front of the house but a little awkward as you have to mount the pavement to get to it.
Room itself had everything you'd need but it was a little cramped for 2 people. Bathroom very warm so great for heat lovers! TV just has 5 channels. Bathroom has shampoo/soap&facecloth.
Breakfast was wonderful - everything to hand for cereal etc. Cooked breakfast was very good.
Friendly couple who run this b&b - we were even allowed to leave our car there after we'd checked out (which is 10.30am by the way) until we had to leave Cambridge. Cambridge, for those who may not know, is not particularly car friendly & parking costs can be quite high so double-check if you think you're getting a reasonable deal on accommodation in the city as you could end up spending an extra £10+ per day.
Last word on Alder Lodge - ironing board and hairdryer are on the landing.
If you need somewhere reasonably priced, clean, warm, welcoming with good links to City etc then stay here.
