“Loved my visit”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 16, 2013

Good to see a National Trust property open in February. It is easy to spend an absorbing 4 hours at Hughenden. Go round the house, take in all the information about Disraeli, his marriage, his closeness to Queen Victoria, his achievements in government. Have lunch in the excellent cafe. Visit the church with its memorial and where he is buried. Wander around the gardens and the woods. A very satisfying day out.

“Good resturant, Victorian house”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 28, 2013

They try hard to make this place interesting but unless you are keen on Vistorian politics it's a bit dour. Authentic all the same!

“Worth a look”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 23, 2013

Worth a look if you are in the area. The guides in the House are informative and the gardens are pretty for a walk around. Disraeli lived here and was born down the road in Bradenham Manor. There are some nice tea rooms close by in the park run by volunteers from the church

“An illuminating visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed January 22, 2013

For lovers of the Victorian era, this place (not often "high profile") provides an interesting insight into the life of, arguably, Victoria's favourite Prime Minister. Original furniture and fittings are here, and several artefacts from Disraeli's time - including the visits made by Victoria herself. After his death, Victoria erected a monument in Hughenden church to him; a rare thing indeed, for a reigning monarch to set up a monument to a subject. During the Second World War, Hughenden was used as secret intelligence HQ, and there are interesting exhibits in the cellars, explaining its role.

There is a walled garden and extensive grounds which can be visited - well worth doing so. A cafe/restaurant/tea room offers a good range of eats for the visitor.
