Looking somewhere for Sunday lunch, we hit the search engine as we were in the area, this lovely looking place came up.
Arriving, place looks clean, nicely kept, busy and smelling good. Grabbed a menu, not a huge selection especially for vegetarians. Asked what else you could offer 'we'll put 2 on the plate'. Ok, I let that one go but we're in the vegetarian age now we need to see much more creativeness to cater for people, being a keen cook myself I know how easy it is to produce some stunning vegetarian dishes.
Looking on the menu there were no children's options, so we asked and we would be charged £9.50 for 2 courses, reasonable. We all ordered just 2 courses. £21.50 per adult and £9.50 for my daughter. We had a single drink each.
Ordered the food, wife had blue cheese soufflé, I had roast beef and young daughter had leek and potato soup, they are both vegetarians.
Food arrived, soufflés were not great to look at, presentation poor with just some salad scattered underneath, my roast average, 2 slices of beef, 2 potatoes and a bowl of veg with a soggy Yorkshire pudding. Nothing seasoned. The soup though was nice.
Deserts were fine, nothing to blow you away, typical 80's classics, sticky toffee pudding and Eaton Mess.
Now this is the part of the restaurant experience that is the part people remember most, paying, checking and leaving with a good impression. I went to pay, being outside due to lack of tables inside you had to order and pay later at the bar. Requested the bill which would have been £64 including drinks. It stated £84. Naturally I questioned it with one person who went away, then somebody else came out and I mentioned that one of the meals was a childrens meal at £9.50. She went away, came back and rudely asked 'so which was the childrens choice?'.....
I explained the gentleman had told us £9.50. SHE wasn't happy, someboby grabbed the receipt and re-calculated and presented me another bill for £77.11 So, a J2O, pint of cider and a small Pinot Grigio comes to £24.50? After much deliberation and questioning they agreed to take off another £6 and wouldn't go any further. Absolutely disgusting.
There is a reason a restaurant still advertises awards for 2008/2009 because unfortunately they no longer warrant such accolade. Drove off angry and very disappointed.

We are sorry you didn't like what we do, but it appeals to the majority as the other 80 dinners on Sunday lunch left happy. As we have a small fresh menu and don't cram it with vegetarian items as 99 percent of our customers are not.
Having spoken to the staff we have your payment experience a little different.
