Description: The Browns building in Bristol is modelled on the Doge's Palace in Venice and was once part of the outstanding Bristol Museum and Art Gallery. It was restored to its former glory in 1992 and is now very much part of the landscape. Bristol is a city of bridges, boats and beautiful churches with the stunning Georgian Queen Square at the centre and the world famous Clifton Suspension Bridge on the cliffs of the Avon Gorge. So come and join us at Browns for a great atmosphere, delicious food, sparkling fizz and cool cocktails!

“Worth the extra cash.”

Great service and worth the price. This is a particularly great spot during the summer to sit out and chill watching Bristol fly by.

Decided on eating here with my son and partners to celebrate my son's Graduation earlier in the day. Very nice ambience in the restaurant with good lighting and well laid out seating. The experience didn't start off well though as when at front of house waiting to be seated a member of staff seemed to ignore us whilst talking on the phone. He finished his call then just left us standing there, a while later a waitress appeared and showed up to a free table. Food was ordered and seemed to arrive fairly quickly, though my own meal was a disgrace. A pie with very little content which became apparent on braking through the overblown crust, there were no vegetables offered with the pie but just mash Very poor quality for the money. During the course of the meal the restaurant started to fill, people were left standing at the front door for ages until one of the staff attended to them, I noticed this from where I was seated. One thing in particular that did annoy me was the actions of the bar staff. The manager should have been managing, obviously he was not as they proceed to 'lark' about behind the bar. It was easy to see the waitresses and kitchen couldn't cope with the number of customers there on the night. Those behind the bar should have been pulled off to help elsewhere in the restaurant. The final straw came when ordering the pudding, the order seemed to have been lost by the manager who took it when the waitress failed to return. My son's partner waited half an hour for a hot chocolate drink and in the end went up to the bar to ask why it had not been made up. The puddings and hot chocolate were not charged for as both the waitress and manager realised how bad the service had been. It appeared we were not the only customers to experience problems as the table next to ours sent their starters back and waited ages for a replacement. In summary..overpriced average quality food but with terrible service, shame really as it is a nice looking place.

“Could do better!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed November 29, 2012

Usually call into Browns for breakfast when in Bristol as it's always been pleasant and freshly cooked. This time it was disappointing. Serving staff were polite and welcoming. The drinks and food were served in good time. We were able to specify how we like our eggs done, but then had to send them back because they were overcooked.

In parts my food tasted of garlic, presumably because the grill had not been cleaned from the previous evening's meals and the bill was very high for what was on offer.

I wished we stayed at the hotel for our breakfast now and probably will not be returning to Browns any time soon.

“Comfortable and great for any occasion.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed November 27, 2012

Everytime I visit Bristol I make time to go to Browns, this time I was taking some French friends for their first visit to the area and decided that Browns would be the perfect location for afternoon tea. I wasn't disappointed, it was lovely, our waitress was great and everyone enjoyed it. You can always rely on Browns, whether it is for a gossipy lunch with your girlfriends, or a romantic dinner, now I have no hesitation in recommending it for afternoon tea... oh and the brunch menu looks delicious!

“En Enfer”

Disaffected students and resting actors man the place. Beer is overpriced. Food tastes like boil-in-the-bag. Prices are exorbitant. Ughh!
