Tucked away in Welsh Back, this is a beautifully presented restaurant. I rocked up for Sunday lunch and was very pleased to find Ricard on the drinks list as opposed to the ubiquitous Pernod. In fact the cocktail list is very good indeed, including classics like the Bellini and the French 75 alongside more modern drinks. The house Bloody Mary looked excellent.
I started with a goat's cheese mouse with beetroot and black olive crisp. Mine came with crostini but it still worked extremely well. Light, flavoursome - a perfect starter. When I pointed out the crostini to the waitress, she applogised and insisted on bringing me a further small portion with the black olive crisp at no charge.
The roast sirloin of beef was perfectly cooked, tender and delicious. The accompanying vegetables were also excellent. I had a half-bottle of claret with the beef - not cheap at £15 but very good. I finished the meal with a passion fruit mousse with a wild strawberry sorbet.
A special must be made of the waiting staff. Just the right balance of attentiveness and distance. They were friendly and knowledgeable.
This is the best restaurant I've been to so far in Bristol and I've lived here for 6 years. Go whilst you can still get a table!
