The Hotel Du Vin Bistro had been recommended to me by someone who lives in Bristol and as there were 8 of us celebrating my wife's 60th birthday I wanted something that was going to be a bit special. I was not disappointed. The restaurant put us in our own private room just off the main restaurant which was decorated in keeping with the rest of the hotel. The mural on the ceiling caused some laughter!
The service and food was excellent although a little on the expensive side. I had the lamb chops which at £22 for three small lamb chops was expensive although they were perfectly cooked.
The service was excellent and they had produced a special birthday cake for my wife. At the time of booking I had said I wanted something we could have as a sweet but still being a cake. They came up with a chocolate cake in layers with chocolates mousse in between the layers and a very finely sliced pear in the bottom layer to keep it moist. It was excellent but big enough to feed a party of 30. Three days later we are still eating it.
Overall I would recommend this restaurant. It's not the place to go if you are on a budget as most the food is in the high teens and the sides are all extra and there are only a couple of wines in the top end of the teens range, most of them are in the £25-£35 price bracket with some being much higher.
It was a good recommendation and we all enjoyed our meal.
Next time I am back in Bristol I will try it again when there are just the two of us.
