“Sunday lunch was good”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

Had to sit in conservatory as very busy and it was so noisy which spoilt what was an excellent meal. Need to book. Fairly comprehensive menu which was not cheap but fairly priced. Would be lovely in the summer as right by the river. Desserts were excellent.

“It's worth two in the bush!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed May 7, 2013

A small but very nice restaurant for a sunday lunch situated in the picturesque village of Long Ashton, south of Bristol. The food was well presented and very tasty and included traditional roasts and a vegetarian option. The desserts were very tempting - I suggest everyone should try the Hay ice cream not to mention the Buttermilk with Strawberries and shortbread. The restaurant was clean and the atmosphere relaxed and friendly.

“Dissapointing Lunch”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed May 1, 2013

From apparent good reviews we ventured to the Bird in Hand for Lunch. Nice Pub with excellent welcome. We both had Cottage Pie which had a crusty topping which was incredibly salty. There was far more potato than meat and a meagre quantity of vegetable which were however perfectly cooked. £17 for two cottage Pie meals was exorbitantly priced as was the large glass of Rioja at £7:30.

“Best Sunday Roast EVER!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 21, 2013

Quite simply the tastiest Sunday Roast of all time. I have been scouring Bristol and the surrounding areas for some time now for that truly awe inspiring combination of meat, gravy and Veg which is the main culinary institution in this land and today was the day it all came together.
First of all its a lovely little pub with a nice selection of beverages, well appointed toilets and easily accessible in the little hamlet of Long Ashton. Had booked ahead and so 3 of us took our tables excitedly but aware of the possibility of disappointment which has been a perennial feature of my quest thus far in Bristol.
Menu is interesting and limited to 4 dishes in each course. We had the Lamb's Belly between us as a starter - wonderfully moreish sticks of lamb covered in breadcrumbs served with an anchovy and caper dip. Set the tone for what was to come, delicious.
And so to the main event - 2 Roast Beefs whilst I went for the Belly of Pork - Perfectly cooked meat served with roasties and sides of chessy leeks, pickled red cabbage, turnip and some greens. Heavenly food, the perfect way to enjoy a Sunday. Cannot recommend this place highly enough and the staff were simply superb and very pretty as well!!
would give 10 but only allowed the 5 stars unfortunately.
