We stayed here for one night on a weekend break, paying a bargain price of £12 in the Travelodge sale.
The location of the hotel is ideal for exploring Bristol, approximately 15 minute walk to Harbour side, 30 minutes to Bristol Art Gallery and 10 minutes’ drive to Clifton suspension bridge, there isn’t much around the hotel so you need to walk into the city centre for bars/restaurants which takes 10 minutes. There is a car park directly under the hotel which isn’t operated by Travelodge so charges apply, we paid £7.50 for 24 hours. The car park was really busy as it is open for public use so you’re not guaranteed a space so better to leave car for duration of stay .
This is definitely one of the better Travelodge’s, basic standard bedroom but furnishings were more modern, everything was clean and the facilities well-maintained i.e. comfortable mattress, good shower. The staffs were also friendly and helpful during check-in, providing directions and recommendations of nightlife.
The only downside was the other guests who were staying on our floor; I’ve stayed in enough Travelodge’s in city centres to expect it to be noisy at weekends. However, we were constantly woken from 3 am to hear guests arguing and a group of men threatening female guests and shouting racist comments – bit much even for £12 a night. I found it very uncomfortable but there was no way of notifying reception without getting up and walking through the group which was intimidating as there was no phone or mobile signal in the room. We woke up late the next day and really tired with three hour drive ahead of us, not the great night sleep’s that Travelodge promises! Rubbish behaviour of guests shouldn’t really reflect on the hotel but as far as I could tell there was no security present at night to deal with the many problems and it was just a matter of waiting for everyone to eventually go to sleep.
Overall, for £12 the hotel really was a bargain and I would consider returning if visiting Bristol. Hopefully the incidents were a one off but I wouldn’t have been impressed if I’d paid the full price, maybe one to avoid at weekends if travelling as a family.
