“Wonderful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed June 4, 2011

We had a wonderful stay, right in the heart of Bristol. Everything about the hotel was perfect! Even breakfast was the best ever! The staff were helpful and nice. We are planning to go back again as soon as possible!

We arrived for a one night stay on Sunday 29th May (bank holiday monday the following day). On first impressions it looked beautiful, in a great location, fantastic courtyard and great use of color to give a fantastic image. We were greeted within a matter of seconds and directed to our room which was on the 1st floor.

The room was perfect, decorated to an incredibly high finish that was noticeable throughout, homely and cosy yet classy as well. We were in room 12, overlooking the courtyard and with the windows open the sound of the small water feature was very relaxing.

We ventured out for food and found excellent places very very close by (why is handy as I'm currently on crutches), the local Irish pub at the end of the street was very welcoming.

Unfortunately, we had come here to relax for a short break in a nice guesthouse, I suppose we picked the wrong date as it ended up being not so peaceful once the sun had gone down. Firstly we were by the door the lift, I thought this would be ok as it looked well sound-proofed, however we were woken several times in the night by women/girls (not sure) laughing and shouting down the corridor, every time the door opposite opened we heard everything. It was also very hot, the radiators were off and as it's automatically controlled we slept with the windows open - dont' do this! As it's near the bars etc it also means you get to hear all the arguments and drunken anticks once the bars kick out.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not a fuddy duddy, I love going out as well, but when we were looking to a relaxing break after stressful events its not entirely what we ordered.

Finally, the honesty bar is not as advertised, it's only soft drinks and water, no ales, spirits or wine, if they are kept somewhere else this needs to be clearly signed.

All in all though, we would stay here again - but only if we were one of those going out for the night. I would have said all of this as we left but we were never asked.

We spent the second May bank holiday at Brooks Bristol and had a great weekend. It was a lovely hotel, stylishly finished and the rooms although not the biggest were really nice and perfect for a romantic weekend. The staff were really friendly and a particular highlight was the breakfast - try the eggs benedict or florentine! The other great thing about it is the location - right in the centre of Bristol with St Nicks market right outside which meant we able to explore on foot and sample the great shopping and food.

I travelled to Bristol for a shopping trip, just staying for one night. What a find! The guest house is perfectly placed : central, near all the bars and restaurants ,and right opposite St Nicholas Markets. Dont worry about it being noisy: it is situated in its own tranquil courtyard.
The atmosphere is quite unlike any other, its not a hotel, for sure, so dont expect 24hr room service and fawning doormen( perhaps that's what the author of the one terrible review was expecting???) BUT, if you want friendly, courteous and obliging staff, in an informal yet professional setting, then this is a place you must try.
Dont be put off by any negative reviews, I cant recognise Brooks from that description, to be honest.
Its so good, my friend and I have arranged to stay for a week, later in the year.
Thank you for a superb breakfast....we arrived late, but this was dealt with by the smiling chef: nothing was too much trouble. All food was freshly prepared, and the organic yogurt with granola and fresh strawberries was......divine.

Small rooms (ours had a view to the wall of the opposite building one meter away), breakfast was not at all what was described on the website, unfriendly atmosphere, the room was not cleaned until late in the afternoon. The location is really good but the service was very bad.

We are very sorry you did not enjoy your stay at Brooks Guesthouse Bristol.

We have looked into your comments and discussed your review with the staff on duty during your stay we take all comments from our guests very seriously & would like to make the following observations:

We describe the room as compact king double. The reason you hadione of the rooms facing the light well which is about 4 meters square was due to the fact that you were travelling with a baby for whom we provided a cot and this room has a recess area by the bathroom to conveniently locate the cot & is lovely and quiet which we thought would help your baby sleep better

We work very hard to create a warm friendly relaxing environment for our guests and had excellent feedback from all our other guests over the weekend regarding the vibe and feel of the guesthouse

We are very clear about our breakfast offering on the website and are very serious about food quality, presentation and preparation. If there is anything you are unhappy with its helpful to mention it it at the time so we can prepare you an alternative breakfast

We housekeep all of our rooms by 2pm I understand that when you came back to the room at 1pm the duty manager offered to get it house kept immediately however the baby was asleep and we offered to do the room when ever was convenient in the afternoon; which she duly did when you went out later.
