Don't get your hopes up, this is a pretty hotel from the outside and they have renovated the reception area and the Cafe, where you get breakfast. I booked to say for one night and chose a 'Gorge View' room. It was one of the hotter weekends of the year and when I got into the room I could hardly breathe! There was no air at all, and combined with the thick curtains and wall to wall carpets everywhere (and radiators that were full on in the hallways) it was very uncomfortable. To make things worse the windows are all screwed shut, you can open the bottom sash by 5 inches but that is obscured by double glazing. I complained and was told the windows have to be screwed shut to stop guests jumping out and killing themselves - I think there might be a story there!! I got moved to a room with a ceiling fan, but still only 5 inches of fresh air. You don't expect air con in an old hotel (although many have it) but you do expect to be able to open a window. They seem to have an issue with fresh air as at breakfast time I asked to sit on the terrace, it was nearly 20 degrees at 8am, only to be told that if I did that everyone would want to... after all I am only a paying guest and the view of the gorge is what the hotel sells itself on! Don't get your hopes up, maybe go there for a drink and admire the view but check into a city centre hotel if you want a comfotrable night's sleep!
