“Good value”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 5, 2013

My wife and 7 year old daughter stayed for 1 night. We found the check-in staff to be friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and furnshed much the same as other Hilton properties, although I have stayed in more modern Hiltons. The only slight critisism is that the mattress appeared to be aging and very hard, but did manage to sleep ok. We made use of the pool which you can actually swim lengths in, and although we did not use the gym, it looked adequate. The lobby bar area was pleasent, and we had a drink there in the evening. We had breakfast included in the rate, the choice of food was wide, as you'd expect from Hilton/ Marriott type establishments, the quality of the food was good. I'd definately stay again.

We recently got married here and the service we received was amazing! All of the staff were great, but I must put in a special mention for Lucy and Cyril who were fantastic on the day and leading up to the big day!
The room where the ceremony/ wedding breakfast and evening reception was held looked amazing too, you would be suprised what a twinkle backdrop, flowers, chair covers etc can do!
The food was fantastic, lots of guests mentioned how tasty it was (especially the beef)! The rooms were nice and clean, never had any complaints! our suite was lovely, enough room to get a make up artist, hairdresser, bridesmaid, bride, friend and mother of the bride in!!!!
The only thing I was concerned about were the photos as the courtyard isn't very big however I shouldn't have been so worried, the photographer got some lovely pics! We also popped over to the lakes, just a few mins away and had some great picturesque romantic pics done there as the sun was setting!!
I would highly recommend getting married here, great value for money and the staff couldn't have been more helpful!!
We had a fantastic wedding!! Thank you to all the staff for making our day perfect!!

Nice and clean, excellent staff on reception and restaurant. It's worth joining the priority club if only for the free paper :-) It was all about the breakfast for us - the kids loved it. Would stay again if in the area.

Room Tip: Double double room is perfect for families

A fantastic hotel. Outstanding customer service, a relaxed feel, good food and large clean rooms. Perfect for the business traveller or for a break in the South West. After a busy day the welcome I received was fantastic. Good deals in the restaurant and one of the best nights sleep I have had in a hotel. Great!

Very pleasant stay, my family of 4 were very comfortable and we were pleased with 2 extra beds as we have a son and a daughter. The room was large enough for us all to have our space. The water was always hot, even when we all had showers.

The reception of the hotel gives the impression of quality and that the hotel is quite modern. Unfortunately the rooms say the opposite. Furniture is dated and unloved. All lamps have to be turned off individually - theres no main light switch by the bed. There are also no plug sockets by the bed (a pet hate of anyone who uses their phone as an alarm clock and needs to charge it overnight!)

Typical of the Hilton brand, everything you'd expect and get free in other hotels is chargeable... wifi @ £14 per day - my home broadband isn't that much for two months! Theres a bottle of water in your room for £3.95! So many other hotels have a free bottle of water in your room. Car Parking is £5 but it's not even a city centre location (some hotels in the City Centre don't even charge for parking). Breakfast is almost the same price as a three course evening meal.

Room service was great - hot, delivered quickly and really nice food. Quite a good selection on the room service menu.

The gym is pretty good - more equipment than some hotels have. Pool looked nice (didn't use), although strange that you could smell the pool walking through the hotel corridors.

I'd recommend this as a business hotel if you don't need to be in the City Centre, but I can't really see it as a couples or family hotel. The Aztec Hotel just round the corner is a similar price and has some nicer touches and less gripes for me than the Hilton.
