“Great hotel, great location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed September 20, 2013

Location is always important and the Bristol Hotel couldn't be better. It is on the floating harbour across from the Arnolfini Gallery, the biggest restaurant in England ZaZa Bazaar, lots of pubs, clubs and tourist attractions. Despite being so close to everything the hotel rooms were quiet with good secondary glazing. My room was lovely, not huge but perfect. Nice touch having a coffee machine. The bed was very comfortable and the bathroom ideal with nice toiletries including hair conditioner. We ate in the restaurant and the food was excellent. Breakfast was nice too with a good selection of hot and cold foods. .

Room Tip: Rooms on the harbour size have great views at night.

Nice hote in a great location - on the waterfront and near to good bars and restaurants and the town centre. Rooms are very clean and well appointed. Staff are always efficient and polite. Good value for money.

We booked our rooms on a deal which included a superior room on the 6th floor for two nights, breakfasts and an evening meal on the day of arrival. We also received two cocktails on arrival and paid just over £200 - a little more than we would normally pay, but with the extras and the situation of the hotel, well worth it.

I had stayed at this hotel 30 years ago when it was The Unicorn and its standards are as good now as they were then. Our room was large, clean, and quiet and the staff were friendly and helpful. As others have mentioned, the hotel does not have its own car park, but there is an arrangement with the NCP park next door, so parking there is free.

My only negative comment would be on the restaurant, which I think is a more recent addition. It lacks character, the tables are a little close together and it tends to get used by some guests as a thoroughfare for easy access to the dock area. Also the chef seemed unable to keep up with the supply to the breakfast buffet, leaving, at times, queues waiting for stocks to be replenished. Otherwise the food was good.

Room Tip: Some guests have complained about traffic noise. On the 6th (top) floor, we heard nothing. If you va...

Dear oldagetraveller1,

Thank you for the review,

It must have been very nostalgic staying back in the hotel again so long after your last stay, hopefully it is east to notice our continued investment in the property since converting from the Unicorn back in 1988.

We will certainly take your comments on board regarding our restaurant.

We hope to see you again in the near future,

Sincerely,

Mark Payne

Very centrally located on the old docks in rather uninteresting building but made up for by the quality of the interior space. Nice reception areas with good use made of the views over Bristol's old dock area.

My room was equipped with two double beds but from colleagues I hear that such a generously equipped room is not standard. Nevertheless I found the rooms to be of very good quality and finish and they were well maintained and cleaned.

Breakfast was the usual offerings.

Dear MFivienna,

Thank you for taking some time out to review the Bristol hotel, we really appreciate the five stars you have awarded us.

Your colleagues are correct in that majority of our rooms have a "double / queen / King" bed as opposed to two doubles, however we have 6 of those rooms which make excellent family or twin rooms.

we are pleased you enjoyed your stay with us and hope to see you again in the future,

Sincerely

We paid £174 for 2 nights on a Friday and Saturday. Breakfast not included but free parking in the adjacent NCP and complimentary newpapers. Excellent breakfast as always at the Weatherspoons 2 mins away. Impressive ground floor. Our bedroom was clean and of reasonable size. Good sized TV. Bathroom was well equipped but although not small definitely compact. Excellent location right on the waterfront and in the old town. We ate in the restaurant because we were late booking anywhere else. Generally the menu was pricey and meal portions were not overgenerous as the chef seems to prefer art to substance but the food was very tasty. Very poor selection of beers available.

Dear 14michael14,

Thank you for the review,

It is pleasing to see you felt the hotel was great value and enjoyed our complimentary car parking on site.

I agree with your comments on our poor selection of beer, we are currently reviewing our offing and will hopefully have some new choices at hand on your next visit,

Stayed in the hotel for a Sunday night in late August, arriving after a 5 hour international flight delay and a 2 hour train trip from Heathrow. So the very friendly reception staff and the extremely comfortable bed that awaited me were most welcome. The room was spacious, the bathroom both airy and well appointed, and the in room facilities excellent.

Being exhausted I ordered room service, which arrived promptly and was very tasty. Breakfast was taken in a room with a view of the passing parade and was ample. Like the last few reviewers I had a room on a higher floor, although not with a view of note, and enjoyed the quiet surrounds. Definitely would stay here again.
