Description: The Black Horse in the centre of Woburn is a quintessential English village pub with a truly fantastic restaurant tucked away inside. Make your way through the picturesque 18th century faade and cosy bar, and youll discover a rather chic dining room serving up delicious English dishes. With its exposed beams, friendly service and stellar best of British menu, this is the kind of place that invites you to kick back with a bottle of wine and while away a lazy afternoon. A little gem, The Black Horse even has a hidden courtyard which is splendidly sunny during the summer months. The Head Chef Trevor Blake has put together an accomplished menu featuring free range chicken and eggs, artisan cheeses, native fish and British cuts of lamb and beef. The menu at The Black Horse is exhaustive, and the brilliant food is accompanied by an exciting selection of wines and real ales.

“warm & friendly pub”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed February 25, 2013

Friendly & attentive staff. Delicious cuisine- the rabbit pate which they were trialling was delicious, as was the braised venison. I liked the wine too!

It's good to go to a warm pub on a freezing cold day. We enjoyed our lunch.

“Perfect Sunday Lunch”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 18, 2013

After returning from a hen do I was treated to Sunday Lunch and after a little chaos trying to find some parking nearby as the weather was fresh yet sunny and plenty of people were out and about in Woburn, we finally parked up and made our way to the Black Horse. We had not booked and initally we were told that it was probably not possible to sit us, luckily they asked if we could fit in our visit within 2 hours as a table was free before the next booking. We had really been looking forward to a spot of lunch so agreed and were promptly shown to our tables and soon after ordered out duck terrine starter to share and opted for the Sunday roast beef and lamb.
The duck terrine was well balanced with the pistachio providing a subtle sweet crunch and the rhubarb sweet yet tangy. The roasts were extremely delicious and made it to the top of our lists with generous portions of meat, heaps of vegetables and delightfully crisp roast potatoes. Just enough gravy to pull it all together too! Service was efficient and friendly! Brilliant sunday lunch for us!

“Superb”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 12, 2013

Went here last week on a Saturday night with the other half. Food was superb, service was attentive/joking and friendly, atmosphere was great. We both said that we should go back. The steak and house special seabass was awesome.

The best bit? Desert - the apple pie was the best I've eaten and I love it!

Highly recommend

“Faaaantastic”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 1, 2013

Myself and two friends had a lunch in the Black Horse on 30.01.2013.

What a great place. It started with a very attentive service, the staff was polite and had a full knowlegde what was on the menu (which is not always a case). We were lucky being served by what turned out to be a passionate about food waiter, whose recommedation we followed.

I had a salmon mousse for starter, lamb for main and pear and apple crumble with custard. All beautifully presented and very tasty.

The decor is very pleasant, the seating very comfortable.

Overall, one of the best meals and best service I ever had. Highly recommended.
