“Real home from home...”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 13, 2013

We had a 'unique opportunity' to stay at The Old Vicarage, Clehonger, Herefordshire, HR2 9SE. Whilst waiting for our house in Hereford to be readied we stayed 14 days at this beautiful Guest House. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel relaxed by owners Julian and Dinah Jeffery.A roaring log fire in the lobby on a cold Easter Sunday evening was most welcoming. Our main reason for booking was the fact that they allowed our dog to stay. She was made to feel very welcome. The owners have their own dog, Jasper. There is a nice 'dog walk' from the house down to the church and around the local pond.
The twin room (The Greenhouse) was very comfortable with coffee and tea facilities made available. Our room was always warm and bathroom facilities were good. Good shower. Plentiful supply of fresh clean towels. Sometimes the WiFi signal dipped but overall the coverage was good. Safe off-street parking at the rear of the house.
Breakfast was very good. Cereals and cooked breakfast. During our fortnight stay the overall standard never dropped. This is a 4 star guest house and I know there are many of them around but this 'home from home' really does deserve a try. You will enjoy.

The door opened and we were greated by Julian, Dinah and their georgous black labrador. The woodburner was alight and the place was so cosy, felt like home. The accomodation was great, very clean, nice furniture and vases of spring flowers everywhere. We were made to feel so welcome. Dexter our dog loved all the walks near by. Breakfast was so tasty, the home made jam was a nice touch and great poached eggs. We didnt get time to sample the evening meal but will definately be back. Unfortunately the reason for the visit was because my mother who lived in Hereford had just passed away and we needed to be near to organise the funeral etc. Julian and Dinah were kind and sympathetic, even offered to collect our car one day when we had left it in town. The next time we go will be for happier reasons. We were married in the church a few doors down from the Rectory, Dinah was a key holder, she let us go and spend some time in the church, it meant a lot.

Room Tip: Barroque suite was spacious with good ensuite facilities,

The Old Vicarage and the lovely couple that run it have entirely changed my viewpoint of staying at hotels over guest houses, much to their merit.
Having stayed in hotels all around the world I must say this was one of my most pleasant stays in the UK.
Dinah was constantly attentive to any needs, making sure everything was fine over breakfast which was excellently cooked fresh by Julian - lovely sausages and perfectly done poached eggs. The home made preserves were also very nice and fruity alongside the doorstop thick toast.
The room was comfortable with a lovely memory foam mattress like I have at home, meaning a very relaxed night's sleep, coupled with the rural location the peace at times was hard to get used to when you have two kids at home!
Both Dinah and Julian are a credit to how an English B&B should be run, eloquent, quaint and perfectly relaxed.

Even though I am allergic to dogs it wasn't an issue at all that there is a B&B dog, Jasper being one of the most laid back labradors I have ever met. The rooms were well aired by the fine countryside and at no point did I have an issue with my allergies so don't let Jasper put you off at all!

Would happily stay again if ever in Hereford again, so much so I may try and bring the other half back for a personal stay.

P.S the jam is worth taking home - my daughter loves it.

Everything you could wish for in a British B&B - The house is situated in a very quiet semi rural location with good off street parking and is ideally placed to explore Hereford in one direction and the Golden Valley in the other. The bedroom we stayed in for four days was a good size and beautifully furnished, although it's private bathroom was not en- suite. The hosts were extremely friendly and helpful and breakfast and dinner are of an excellent standard with local produce and homemade jams. The weather was pretty cold during our stay but a welcoming fire and warm rooms made our stay a pleasure.

Room Tip: All rooms have en-suite bathrooms apart from Union which has a super private bathroom across the lan...

We stayed here for 2 nights with our dog. We stayed in the suite with a separate entrance which was great for the dog, it had a small sitting room and 2 toilets.
Wonderful breakfast with homemade marmalade and bread, friendly and helpful hosts.
Handy for touring around the Hereford area. Would definitely visit again.
Very dog friendly.

The hosts were very friendly and helpful. Had an evening meal there which was excellent, the breakfast the following morning just as impressive. Would have been nice to stay longer than one night, would highly recommend for any that wants to stay near Hereford, definitely more relaxing and individual than hotels in Hereford

10/10 for everything apart from the Wifi which I hope will be better when I visit again in March!
The hosts are great.
Breakfast top draw, with great produce.
The B&B was nicer than most 4Star hotels, the room was amazing and tastefully decorated throughout.
Not given to hyperbole, but the best B&B we have ever stayed at. The building's lovely and the location is a dream, so quiet.
