“Perfect Family Escape at the Snow”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed October 17, 2011

From the second we arrived, we knew we were in for a fantastic family holiday. We chose to stay in The Barn - and I'm glad we did! It was brilliant. We have 4 young children so we usually expect a noisy household. Well, this time we were in for a treat. The kids had a ball, yet it felt utterly peaceful. The sheer size of the space meant that the kids could have a great time exploring, yet surprisingly it was still very quiet. It's such a lovely place with so much detail and all the features you could hope for. The kids loved toasting marshmallows in the fire place and there was heaps of fire wood to keep us going for a very long time. The kids had so much fun playing in the house that for two whole days we didn't go anywhere. We just stayed indoors and relaxed. (The heated floors were such a treat and fantastic for the kids each morning and night.) We were there for just over a week and could have happily stayed much longer. When we finally ventured out, we skied at Perisher and were lucky enough to find a fantastic ski instructor for our daughter with special needs. We've just booked another trip for next year and can't wait! I'm sure it will be just as wonderful the second time.

We stayed in Pender's Barn and it was the most superb experience we have ever had when skiing in Oz. Where do I start? Sipping aged scotch in front of the fire (ok, so that wasn't included in the price, but who wouldn't)? Settling back for some television on the couch? The incredibly comfortable king sized bed? Heated floors? We were floored when we saw what we got for our money. Loved it. Will we go back? Hell YEAH!

Room Tip: If you have friends, go the "Post Office" and/or "Pender's Barn"

We stayed in a park cabin. The cabin seemed quite run down really but it served our purpose as we were skiing all day and exhausted by the evening. It was warm, good hot water, and is dog friendly. You are not allowed to leave your dog in accommodation during the day but they have quite cosy kennels to keep your pet in which can be heated during the winter. Unfortunately the kennel costs extra and heating is extra on top of that. I had ordered heating in the kennel but the heating didn't actually work. That said, it's in a good location to ski resorts.

We took 3 families to Pender Lea and stayed in the Cottage. It was excellent with 3 double bedrooms, a kids room full of bunks, 4 bathrooms, spa, fireplace, and loads of family areas. The house was well-appointed with every appliance we could ever need. Fire wood was abundant and our hosts were wonderful, leaving the key in the door of the cottage without us having to go to reception at all.
The accommodation is perfectly situated only 5 minutes from the ski tube up to Perisher. A great time was had by all, especially our children - living in Papua New Guinea, they had never seen snow before and it was a wonderful experience for them.
The schnapz factory 2 minutes up the road towards Jindabyne is also well worth a visit - I recommend the pear.

Room Tip: Good value in off-peak seaon.

We stayed in Bedsitter for a couple of nights and absolutely loved it. The room was very clean, spacious and cozy with well equipped kitchen.
In the evening we could also watch kangaroos coming from surrounding area close to our chalet!
The only downside is that the chalets are all in quite remote area probably 20 min drive from Thredbo, but we didn't mind that at all and enjoyed our quiet holidays very much!

We have just returned from Pender Lea (we stayed in the Post Office cottage) which made up one leg of our summer holiday. We spent 4 nights in this amazing cottage, feeling a world away from our hectic lives, but with all the comforts you could ever want.

The Post Office was big for all 5 of us - we could sit as a family and play games in the main lounge, or relax in the bedrooms. The kids played outside in the garden and explored, and then there is everything that Thredbo itself offers like walks, mountains, etc.

If only we lived 2 hours away instead of 9, we would come here all the time. A great place, lovely hosts - truly amazing..
