My wife and I, along with four other friends, visited the Half Moon on a Saturday evening, our first visit for more than two years. The restaurant was busy and buzzing, making a good atmosphere.
However, I found the menu content rather limited for my taste, in particular the starters. Two of us started with pidgeon breast (the only starter I thought I would like) which was rather tough to eat, but presented very nicely. One in the party had the beetroot soup which he enjoyed, another the fishcake which was OK. For main I had calves liver which was very thinly cut, resulting in it being overcooked. The most disappointing was the fish and chips which most had. The fish was very dark in colour, not the golden coulour expected. Likewise with th chips, they looked like they had been previously cooked and then recooked, very dark in colour and not at all crispy.
We also thought the service could have been better. Having ordered our pre dinner drinks, we had to remind the waiter we had not received the beer. During the meal no one came to see if all was well or if we wanted more wine or drinks. We had to try to attract the attention of the waiter for more wine. When the bill arrived, it was just "plonked" on the table by ( I presume) one of the owners, and not a word said to us. You may ask, why did we not say anything to the staff at the time. Being with friends, and we booked the venue, we were all reluctant to complain, shame.
