“fantastic family find”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

Jul 20, 2007

We just returned from a 5 day stay at the Riviera Beach Resort and I can't wipe the smile from my face and better yet I know the memories we created at the resort will last a lifetime. I can't say enough about this resort. I was very skeptical about staying here after I read a lot of reviews on the internet. I was expecting a very "beachy" motel but what we found was an unbelievable location overlooking the ocean, a beautiful kid friendly pool, a very clean room, friendly hotel staff and great service. We spent very little time away from the resort. We have never paid over $200 a night for a hotel since we had kids but we thought what the heck we would splurge a little expecting to pay for the resort plus a whole lot of activities for the kids. We got the poolside room which I highly recommend. The oceanfront room is more expensive but this room had a private balcony that had a view of the ocean as well as the pool. To our suprise we spent very little money outside the resort because the kids didn't want to leave the grounds. We went to the restaurant for a great breakfast in the morning, then to the pool where I was served drinks and read my book while the kids had fun in the pool, then to the beach where we had complimentary sand chairs towels and sand toys. You can have lunch served on the beach from the grill or a box sandwich lunch for a very reasonable price. No need to carry around cash, you charge everything to the room and surprisingly it didn't add up to a lot. The only thing we paid for during the day was our meals and tip.If there is a downside to this resort it would be the beds. For families the double beds are a bit small. I would love it if they switched to at least queens so it's more comfortable for adults. The sheets and blankets are a bit hard and the furnishings not the best but once you walk out on that balcony and see what this resort offers you will not think twice about the room. We have a 14year old and a 6year old who had an equally good time at this resort. We didn't want to leave and can't wait to go back next year. In the past we have stayed at vacation homes on the cape but this was by far the best cape cod vacation we ever had. We will go back again and again. Thank you Riviera Beach Resort and Staff for a memorable 5 days.

Thank you for your glowing review. We hope you have been able to return to create more memories spent at the Riviera. Our Poolside Ocean View guest rooms were newly renovated. Kid's Klub, outdoor pool and beach is very difficult for guest to stay away. Some guest rooms have 2 queen beds. See you soon.

The hotel was very helpful over the phone, so I booked a room based on internet research and the helpful staff. The woman I spoke with recommended the poolside rooms because they had been renovated more recently than the oceanview rooms. I'm not sure if it really made much difference, because the room felt old anyway. The furnishing may have been new, but everything had that "old" and "cheap" feel to it.

The location was convenient, since we traveled all around the cape for a long weekend. The beach is ok for families, but it's not a beach for single adults or couples. There were so many kids running around at all times that my boyfriend and I didn't go to that beach even once. Overall, it was fine for us because we spent the weekend exploring other parts of the cape anyway.

Lastly, this hotel has the hardest sheets and towels ever. Seriously.

Memorial Day Weekend on the Cape maybe one of the 1st for family get-aways after a long cold winter. Our friendly & knowledgable reservation staff would be happy to asssit single adults or couples looking for a quiet get-away. Our Poolside guest room renovations have been completed and many enjoy the updated colors, materials and furnishings . Linens have also been replaced. We hope you give us another chance when vacationing on Cape Cod.

“Enjoyable family vacation”

Riviera Beach Resort - Bass River

We stayed at the Riviera on Cape Cod at the recommendation of a fellow teacher who had stayed there several times. Even though at the time, the only thing we could afford in season was a parking lot view room, we had a great time. The pool was nice, the beach wonderful and our room not too crowded. We ate at the outside pool bar several times (how could you not when it smelled soooo good!). My boys enjoyed crabbing with lots of kids everyday. And I do mean LOTS of kids. This is a very family friendly hotel with many driving up from from NY and NJ to spend a week at the beach with their wife and kids. There are many close places to eat though the traffic in August was terrible at times.

Happy to read you and your family enjoyed your stay with us. I hope your children made some summertime friendships while collecting crabs. Summer traffic on Cape Cod is famous. Hope to see you back at the Riviera.

Im sure there are worse places and there are some things about this place that arent terrible, so I cant give it a 1 out of 5, but a 2 out of 5 is the best I can come up with.

It was okay on some levels, but I would not go back. The location was good, the outdoor pool area was nice, the beach was nice, but not as nice as many other beaches on the cape.

The room was sort of depressing; old furnishings, synthetic blankets, and polyester blend sheets. I had my choice of room since it was off season, so I did have a nice deck, overlooking the pool and ocean, facing southwest for afternoon sun. But they had an annoying water fountain in the pool that was very noisy which was kept on until 9 or so, which prohibited me from wanting to sit out there. Might be cool for kids, but no need to keep it on so late, especially [since I was there in mid week] in September, with no kids there.

The indoor pool was cold, and the lights were out at 7, even though they said it was open til 9. I went in anyway and turned on the lights. Still after several laps I was cold, so I went into the jacuzzi to warm up. The jets were aimed up so you couldn't even feel them. The whole indoor wet area felt very low budget, and kind of unkept and dirty.

The bathroom was not nice. Stained foot grips.

The concierge service was actually pretty good.

The restaraunt was closed at this time of year, except for breakfast. The wait service for my 2 breakfasts was good. The food was mediocre at best, and pricey for what it was (reheated frozen bulk stuff in the $8-14 range), though it was included in my room.

To top it off, I caught a cold the 2nd morning I woke up there. I havent had a cold in over 10 years, so I know it was something from the hotel (they should label it a motel, frankly). I showered immediately after my attempts to enjoy the pool, but perhaps in vein. Or perhaps the room was just not well cleaned ( Ive used health club pools/jacuzzis and hotel jacuzzis many times and never gotten sick).

I would not reccomend this place. I would like to say its not awful, but since it literally made me sick, I cant say that. If I didn't make me sick, I might recommend for people who dont care about the room and just need a central place on the beach to hang their hat. Know what to expect: its not nice, but it might do. I supposedly got a discouted rate at about $115/ night including breakfast, but in hind sight, I dont think it was any deal. Ive seen places on the Cape advertised for way less than that this time of year, but who knows if any of them are any better.

September is a great time to travel to Cape Cod. Beaches are quiet, less traffic and weather has warm days with cool nights. Dining, pool and other services at the resort during off-season may have limited hours. Front desk/concierge is available to assist guests when needed. Poolside guest rooms are one of the most requested locations at the resort.

“Perfect Cape Cod Family Vacation”

We are just finishing an 8 night stay at the Riviera Beach Resort, one of three Red Jacket Resorts in S. Yarmouth, Cape Cod. This is my 3rd time staying here, and first time with our 9 year old daughter. I have also stayed at numerous other Cape hotels and house rentals over the years from Hyannis to Provincetown. The Riviera Beach Resort, or any of the 3 Red Jacket resorts in S. Yarmouth, make for the perfect family resort.

We booked an ocean front room on the 2nd floor---pricey but worth it for the view of the very long beach. If you book an oceanfront first floor room you literally walk out your patio onto the beach. We chose the 2nd floor for the view and a bit more quiet.

Our room had everything you would want, except a coffee maker (which we brought). Great hair drier, larger than average fridge, 2 comfy double beds, balcony with chairs and chaise lounge, table with chairs, tv with remote and all the channels. Wireless internet from your room is FREE or you can use the lobby computer and printer. We were one stairway away from the calm, soothing waters of Nantucket Sound and the excellent outdoor pool.

Some pluses of this hotel---towels, beach chairs, and umbrellas were always available as were sand toys for the kids. They will bring you a boxed lunch right on the beach plus they added a beach barbeque since the last time we were here. The burgers with expensive but definitely above average for a beachside grill.

Our room was always cleaned perfectly. We requested a rollaway for our daughter since the double bed was a bit too small for our tastes. In past years we got a room with a King bed which I think we would do again. The king bedded room have loveseat and plenty of room for a rollaway too.

Our 9 year old daughter spent 3 days at the kids program and loved every minute. She attended the kids club at the Red Jacket Beach Resort right up the road one day since I was spending part of the day at their SPA (ahhhh wonderful!). The other 2 days the kids program was right next door to the Riviera at the Blue Water. They provided lunch games, actviities, supervised swim time, and it gave us a time to go shopping and do adult things,

It really is great having the sister properties so close. We had some rainy days and the indoor pool at the Red Jacket was larger and nicer, though the outdoor pool at the Riviera is by far the nicest. The beach at the Riviera is the longest. The Blue water and Red Jacket both had all the watersports, and the Red Jacket seemed to have a more complete restaurant. There were kids everywhere, but there did seem to be more at the Red Jacket than at the Riviera, but that might just be because its a larger resort. Last night we went to the beach party right next door at the Blue Water which was EXCELLENT! Overall it seems to me that the Blue Water is one star lower than the Rivieria, which is half a star below the Red Jacket. You pay for the fabulous location and rooms which are sparkling clean and comfortable compared to a lot of other beach hotels on the cape, but its worth it!

I think the kids program we have developed over the last few years was the best idea anyone could have come up with. I have never heard of a child not liking it.

Thanks wonderful review. We definately have to talk about coffee makers.
