“Well worth a visit.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed February 24, 2014

We went to The Fat Lamb on an Amazon Local Voucher so it was a bargain price,
Beautiful country setting and there were lovely views. The Fat Lamb has it's own nature reserve which looked impressive but the weather was too wet to walk through it.
The fact the weather was poor did not matter as it was so cosy and warm in The Fat Lamb with an open fire, excellent food and a brilliant pint of Black Sheep real ale.
The staff were all very helpful and friendly.

A welcome break at a fantastic country hotel. Food as good as ever and we will be back again. It was rainy and some snow fell but it was great to be relaxed in such comfortable surroundings. Managed to walk on local routes despite the weather. Coffee with the folk of Ravenstonedale was very welcome.

We went to The Fat Lamb on an Amazon Local Voucher so it was a bargain price, but they also do their own offers if that is not available. It is in a beautiful country setting and there were lovely views from our nice big room. The Fat Lamb has it's own nature reserve which looked impressive but the weather was too wet to explore it. There are walks in the immediate area and we also went on a Viaduct walk in nearby Kirkby Stephen. The bar has a great fire which is kept going all day. The food was good. There was plenty of choice and it was reasonably priced. We ate there both nights. Staff were all very helpful and friendly. The room was very comfortable and the en suite large with a bath as well as shower. A very good place to stay if you love the countryside.

Room Tip: Room 9 was recommended by someone else on Trip Advisor for the view so we asked for that.

On a cold, rainy February afternoon, my wife and I arrived for a two-night stay at the Fat Lamb. After a warm welcome and efficient check-in, we were shown to our room which was warm, comfortable and spotlessly clean. We were hungry after our journey from Scotland and although the kitchen was closed, the lady on duty quickly rustled up some soup and sandwiches which were delicious. The bar was really comfortable with a roaring fire making the atmosphere even better.
Dinner on both nights was excellent with good food well-cooked and pleasantly served by the superb staff. Breakfast was also first-class.
After dinner on the first night, we enjoyed an impromptu musical evening with the other guests - great fun in good company! All in all a wonderful stay in a country inn full of character and we look forward to returning for another visit.

We stayed at The Fat Lamb for 2 nights. It was an amazon deal that was perfect timing for us. Everything about it was very pleasant and turned out excellent value for money. We arrived on a cold night in January, the fire was lit in the bar and we could see that from the doorway as we entered. Shown to our room, the heating was on and the room was very cosy. That was it for us. That just made the whole trip.

We stayed at the fat lamb for 3 nights. Initially it was an amazon deal but the hotel offered us an incentive for an extra night which we took.

The hotel is welcoming from the word go. True oldie world ambience with a very warm and inviting open fire.
The room was lovely. It was spacious clean and the beds were very comfy.

Although the hotel is quite remote it is excellent for walks and only a short car ride to bigger towns like Kendal.

The breakfasts were very good. Service was impeccable.

I thought the pub food had a quite limited choice and was a tad pricey. It was nice though.

Our dog was made welcome and was allowed in the bar area which we appreciated.

Overall, this was a lovely break in a lovely area with a really really nice hotel. Would definitely recommend and would return.

Just returned from another excellent break at the Fat Lamb Inn in Ravenstonedale. We have been visiting here for over 20 years and it has to be said that a few years ago standards had dropped but we are glad to report that there are a lot of improvements to the accommodation. The new beds are very comfortable, everything is clean and all needs catered for. Wifi is now available in rooms and the bar area which is excellent especially as mobile signals are dodgy in this beautiful remote spot overlooking Wild Boar Fell. The food as always is excellent and reflects the country inn feel. It is good having the choice to sit in the restaurant or the bar area. Staff are friendly, helpful and attentive and the roaring fire just completes the cosy feeling especially in winter.
