“Very Basic”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed December 17, 2012

This hotel is very basic nothing spectacular at all we stayed the night recently found the room quite cold and the double bed very small. There was no breakfast to speak of but it was clean and the staff were very nice and helpful.

Very spacious and modern rooms with every detail clean cut and minimalistic. The room was gleaming clean and flat screen tv was an unexpected surprise in this price range. There is underground parking, that few guests asked to make use of on my visit. It was very secure.

The room was a little cold, so I just grabbed the duvet from the other bed. A little noisy at night, but overall fantastic value and great for business travel and access to the university. Very secure with the key cards on the lifts, definitely highly recommend.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 3, 2012

We found this good value at €49 per room per night, easy to find on the main Dublin-Limerick road east of Llimerick city, easy parking close to the entrance and a 5-minute drive to the University Campus where we needed to be. The modern hotel block looks unfinished from the outside as the top stories, not belonging to the hotel, are unoccupied. The hotel has a zero policy on noise. Rooms spacious, beds comfortable, bathroom etc. adequate for a short stay with all the basics, no extras. Flexible lighting arrangements. Small kettle in rooms. Need to bring own toiletries or purchase same from Reception. The rooms were ideal for desk work. There is free WiFi in the small reception area. Otherwise, there is a faster connection with a charge of €5 for any 24-hour period for use in the bedrooms.

Staff were very helpful. We paid for bed only, the hotel does not provide breakfast, but provides vouchers to those who purchase B&B, for a next-door diner called Cafe Noir, which tries to be like a Parisian experience, totally out of context! We were disappointed with this arrangement, though staff were pleasant and helpful. This was the only breakfast facility within reasonable reach, and did not open until 7.30 a.m. Guests had to choose from among four or five set breakfasts, and could not mix and match items between them. On our third morning, hot breakfast was not available by 8 a.m. We were told it had not yet arrived from the Deli who supplies Cafe Noir. We complained about this to the Management at Travelodge, and about the late opening of the breakfast facility.

If taking a taxi, need to tell the driver it is the Castletroy Travelodge, as there is another one on the west side of Limerick city.

There is a large Aldi store right next to the Travelodge.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed October 23, 2012

I had extremely low expectations of this location, due to the low price and negative reviews. However, I thoroughly enjoyed our stay here! My friends and I are young American students who keep to ourselves and didn't want to stay in an extra-rowdy hostel. The front desk was efficient and professional, the room was well-kept with a quality shower, bathroom and comfortable beds. I really had no issues - other guests were quiet, it was a very subtle place to be.

Some of the drawbacks: We booked a three person room, and when we arrived, there was one single bed and one double bed. We made due, but we are all platonic friends and none of us really wanted to share a bed. We are young and dealt with it (after a few drinks at the pubs in Limerick) but I wish we had been made aware of this fact before we arrived. Also, a note to travelers - put your key in the reader to turn the electricity on. I haven't experienced this at other hostels, but know it is always a possibility. Some of the small lights were out (like a reading lamp) which isn't a huge deal, but all of these small issues are why the Castletroy gets a 4/5 instead of an "Excellent" rating.

Enjoy your time in Limerick!

The room was quiet and clean, staff was very helpful in giving directions. I wouldnt stay here longer than a few days but for a short stay its wonderful. Cafe Noir is next door, the food is okay. Across the street is an Aldi, good for loading up on snacks

The staff are friendly and helpful, but, this hotel is more suitable for a short stay instead of a longer one. Our room got very warm, with no air conditioning and the window only opened slightly due to us being on the 3rd floor. Great location and easy to find.

I stayed in Travelodge Castletroy for 4 nts, and for me it's the best hotel from all Travelodge Hotels. Staff really helpful, good service and most important think-walking distance to University of Limerick.
