“Quiet, clean and friendly B and B.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 9, 2011

My wife and I stayed here while walking the Southwest Coast path. David and Ann were kind enough to allow us to stay for one night which we found to not be the norm of B and B owners based near the path.

The accomodation was clean, quiet and good value. We had an evening meal at Chiltern Lodge along with the usual morning breakfast, both of which were great. David and Ann were friendly, attentive and helpful without being obtrusive in anyway. As walkers themselves they were particularly helpful in providing useful advice regarding the Southwest Coast path. I would definitely recommend this B and B.

A comfortable B & B, just a short detour from the South West Coast Path. Worth Matravers is a lovely village, but it must be noted that it is three miles to the nearest pub for food, unless all you want is pasties in the local pub - the renowned "Square and Compass" which is well worth a visit.
Accommodation was clean, although somewhat lacking in character. The breakfast was good with a choice of cooked breakfast, cereals and fruit. The tea and coffee making facilities in the room were basic, but the small espresso cups (rather than mugs) were simply not big enough for a decent cup of tea. Also, some fresh milk on arrival for a cup of tea would have been a welcoming gesture, rather than just the 4 small cartons of UHT milk and 2 tea bags.

We enjoyed our stay here when walking the Coastal Path. The room was clean and comfortable - we had the twin room. Breakfast and packed lunch ample and tasty. Had evening meal - veg pasty and pudding - at village pub a couple of minutes walk away.

Would certainly stay again.

At Chiltern Lodge we were welcome the way we like, in a warm but natural way. Hosts were so kind to even keep the room for us while travelling and not being able to make the advance deposit (doesn't mean they would do it under any kind of circumstance!). The house was beautiful, really, really clean for British standards (I'm sorry, I'm a Spaniard and I know our fault is public toilets), nicely decorated and at the right spot for such a busy area in August. Nice landscapes and views around and quite a reasonable price. The only (but the only one) issue was that the bathroom ceiling partly followed the roof, and having a shower was a bit difficult if you wanted to be fully standing. Environmentally aware people the hosts, very, very kind to us, and wonderful breakfast served. A place I would really want to get back to.

Ann and David have continued to add small improvements to a freindly, comfortable and spotlessly clean" Bed and Breakfast". Located in this picturesque small village one feels totally secure.
I'm looking forward to my sixth visit. Especially as Ann now serves home made jams with breakfast.

I found this B&B to be excellent value, suitibly located (with a car) and run by very helpful people. The double bedded room I stayed in was not large, did not feature a TV and was not ensuite (facilities immediately next door). That said it was very clean and well cared for like the house. The family who run the BB showed themselves to be extremely friendly and accomodating. An excellent breakfast was provided and lots of information in the bed room and in common areas about the surrounding countryside. You either need a car to find this place or or be a walker able to plan your routes. A 3 -4 mile round walk from this place will take in breath-taking coastal sceanery including ancient cliff top chapels. Also in the old village there is proverbial duck pond , tea shop , an ancient and interesting parish church and a "character" PH with integral museum! If that is not enough you are only a few miles from many other places of interest in Purbeck such as Swanage , Corfe Castle and the unmissable Swanage Railway. This is a brilliant base, represents excellent value and is run by caring and interesting people. It also has a web site: http://www.chilternlodge.co.uk/

I stayed here for one night with my sister as part of a walking holiday. The owners provide a warm welcome, good home-cooked food and a very clean and well-maintained property. David Ensor's travel photography, available for sale in the form of greetings cards, is also worth a look. Lovely pub just down the road and within easy reach of the South West Coast Path (you'll be asked nicely but firmly to leave your muddy boots in the porch!). I'd definitely stay here again.
