Owner description: These internationally acclaimed floral display gardens started over 100 years ago and remain privately owned by the family. Jennie Butchart wanted to make her husband's depleted limestone quarry look better and the result is the Sunken Garden. Other gardens include the Rose Garden, the Japanese Garden and the Italian Garden. The gardens are meticulously maintained and provide a riot of colour for much of the year. During the summer, special lighting subtly illuminates the gardens, musical entertainment takes place on the Concert Lawn, and there are ten spectacular Saturday night Firework Shows. The Magic of Christmas season also has beautiful lighting and evening entertainment, and an outdoor skating rink. Spring offers hundreds of thousand flowering bulbs and Autumn is the time for dahlias, chrysanthemums and fall colours. The Gardens is open daily, year round.

“Spring at Butchart Gardens.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 9, 2013

If you have never been to the Gardens you are in for a wonderful treat, my very favourite time of the year is the Spring with the abundence of colours beautiful smells of all the bulbs and the special way that everything is planned out which is a pleasure to see. Everytime I visit I get a thrill of the beauty of the place and all the hard work that goes into bringing pleasure to peoples lives.
If you visit don't forget to go into the gift shop it is a woner of suprises that you see no where else.

“Pictures do not do it justice”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

What a wonderful afternoon of walking around in the sunshine, smelling the spring flowers and slowing down for a few hours.

The gardens are clean, it's a feast for the eyes and the staff is very friendly and willing to answer questions and guide you along if you need help.

I don't know why I brought my camera, it just can't compare to seeing it in person.

Each time I've been here there has been something beautiful; any time of year. The grounds are inspiring and peaceful. This is a must visit experience.

“Price is too high for what you get”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed April 8, 2013

Particularly in such a beautiful city as Victoria, it seems excessive to have to drive all that distance (30 minute drive from downtown) and pay quite a bit of money ($30 for adults and $15 for youth) to go and look at gardens. That being said, if you love gardens and flowers, by all means enjoy the gardens, but I feel that it isn't worth the money, even on fireworks night.

“CIV Tours of Butterfly and Butchart Gardens”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 7, 2013

Our driver and tour guide, Kent, was informative and humorous, making our trip to The Butterfly and Butchart Gardens an enjoyable event. The Butterfly Garden was fun because of the number of butterflies flitting about. The Butchart Gardens were impressive with beautiful trees and flowers in bloom. What a great way to spend a relaxing Easter Sunday. Definitely worth a return trip.
