“A Fabulous Surprise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 21, 2013

My 2 teenage sons and I arrived via ferry from Vancouver Island at around 9pm without a booking. I looked at my car's GPS for accommodation locations nearby for one night as we were on route to Lund for a kayaking trip starting the next day. Even though it was 10 mins from town, I chose the "Old Courthouse Inn" because of the inherent mystique attached to the name. I love historical places which display their individuality, and this wonderful Inn was the old courthouse located in the old town centre, decked out in interesting artifacts and antiques recalling days gone by! (further down the road we found the "Old Jail Café" and had a yummy lunch there in one of 3 jail cells!)
Fortunately they had room 1 available which had one queen bedroom along with a separate large living room where they were able to make up 2 beds for my boys. There was a private bathroom for our room across the hallway which was small but perfectly adequate. This is not a modern hotel cookie cutter format, which I found refreshing and much homelier. The extra attention to details in the rooms was definitely appreciated by us!
The host also phoned around local restaurants for us to find one which was still open at such a late hour for our dinner, and we went across the road to the bar and had a fine meal with great views of the Inn and beyond.
Breakfast which was included was delicious with amazing a la carte choices, and we had it out on the deck overlooking the view back to Vancouver Island. Yes there was the working old Paper Mill to our right, which we were told is the oldest in BC. It is now steam though and there is no smell. Do not let the factory put you off staying at the Old Courthouse, it is part of the history of the area!
WE would have stayed here on our return but unfortunately they were booked out and we had to stay at an adequate but boring cookie cutter hotel in the new town centre instead! Next time we will book ahead!

The love and care that went into this place is very evident! We enjoyed our experience so much! The rooms are clean and quaint. The decor is charming. When you go to breakfast, make sure you read about Edie Rae and her doting husband Leo. It is a wonderful love story. The breakfasts are beyond delicious! Every person there helped us even saving us dinner at a local eatery because we were arriving late! Kindness and care abounds!

Room Tip: Each room is different. So adorable!

I was on a business trip and fortunately was booked into the Old Courthouse Inn. What a wonderful experience. So charming. Full of antiques, but the rooms have all the modern conveniences. The hosts PJ and Kelly are welcoming and excited to share all the history of this hotel. Located in the Powell River historic townsite this hotel is very unique and a real gem. The Edie's café has a wonderful deck to sit on and inside is also charming. The food and service were great. The breakfast which is included in the price of the room is far more than any continental breakfast I have ever experienced. Walking around the townsite is easy from the hotel with easy access to the many other attractions which are part of the townsite and beyond. Thank you PJ and Kelly!

We were unfortunately in car accident during our camping holidays and were forced to stay in PR while we waited for car repairs. The hosts at the Courtouse were incredibly accommodating - they helped us settle in, phoned around for us for car rental availability, drove us around the next few days at great hiking spots and offered to pick us back up, and one time one of the hosts offered to go pick up some fish and chips he had ordered for us. Clearly, the hosts love people, and we were blown away by their generosity. The breakfast menu is much more than a continental breakfast and will leave you satisfied! Friendly staff, clean facility. A big thanks also to the ambulance, fire truck and police crew who were so friendly, professional and helpful and who stayed with us until we were settled at the hotel. Powell River is a beautiful town with home-grown caring people:)

Stayed here for two nights. What a wonderful experience. The rooms were very comfortable. The hosts were very welcoming. To quote my husband at breakfast in Edie's Cafe " I feel like I am staying at a friends or with family".
A definite must if you are staying in Powell River.

Thanks JP and Kelly.

We stayed over for night. The room was beautifully decorated - the lampshades were amazing. Don't be put off by the nearby factory, it's the character and hosts which make this such a great place. The Edie Rae cafe bar in the morning is worth the trip alone.
