“A quick stayover...”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed November 5, 2012

My wife and I sayed in Waterton, at this property Oct 20. The room was excellent, I cannot wait to return to Waterton when things are 'open'. Not too much choice as most businesses are closed for the winter. Dont forget to pick up any supplies or snacks outside the park, during the low season. An excellent room, 210 and attentive staff.

Room Tip: We stayed Saturday night, Room 210 at the top of the metal stairs. When people returned from a weddi...

We stayed at the Waterton Glacier Suites for 2 nights the week after Thanksgiving. We expected the town to be quiet but were quite surprised to find it pretty much shut down. This isn't necessarily a bad thing though if you're looking for a quiet time away while the weather is still good.

The staff were pleasant although weren't able to really help with a couple of questions we had regarding park fees and whether gas was available in the next town over, Mountainview. For anyone wondering, it is and the gas station has a small store for groceries and snacks. Our server in the hotel restaurant appeared new but she did a good job 2 out of 3 meals we had there.

The room itself was large and clean with the usual amenities as well as a small fridge and microwave. The shower stall was small with low pressure but otherwise fine. The "romantic suites" come with a jacuzzi tub and a fireplace which are nice touches.

We booked a package that included breakfast in the on site "restaurant". It was a good deal versus paying for the meals individually. I understand the need for the restaurant as there is only one other place in town open during the off season but they have a few kinks to work out with service and the food in my opinion. I believe this is the first year they've had a restaurant on site so perhaps they'll get things running better. It is a bit uncomfortable sitting right in the lobby a few feet away from the front desk as people check in and out of the hotel though.

The one dinner we had at the hotel was good and reasonably priced considering the area but as there are only 4 items we opted to try the other restaurant (Vimy's) open in town the 2nd night. Breakfast at the hotel was a bit of a let down both in food and service.

If we were to travel to Waterton again we would consider staying here a 2nd time but would definitely look at the other options.

Room Tip: The "romantic suite" at the top of the stairs could get noisy with people coming and going...

The scenery is really beautiful in Waterton and having a nice place to stay makes it all the better! We had such a nice time at Waterton Glacier Suites. We went hiking on the Bears Hump and then came and relaxed in the amazing tub! The room was huge with a big fireplace and high ceilings. There was a fridge so that kept our food that we had brought with us and a microwave to heat it! The staff were really nice and polite. Overall it was a really great stay and we have been talking about going back already!

We paid $149 for a "Romantic Suite" on Oct 18th. Way overpriced, given the limited facilities in the hotel. There is no pool or exercise facility in the hotel and the weather was pretty inclement so the normal exercise option, hiking and walking, were not really an option for anyone but diehards. The view from our room was firstly houses across the street, then the mountains. No lake view available from any room in the hotel. The rooms on the other side overlook the parking lot. We did have a nice room with a fireplace, whirlpool and deck. There was a mountain view but houses across the street made the room and deck very UN private. There are very few places open in the village now, and I think only one restaurant other than what passes for one in the hotel. The menu is very limited. No salads. Wine by the bottle only, but a decent selection of BC and wines you would normally buy for around $12/bottle for $25 a bottle. We had the lasagna, as did almost everyone in the filled to capacity restaurant (which likely is an indication that other places should be open?). My hubby's and everyone else's looked very good but mine was so overcooked it was dry.

There was no soap in the room and the glasses were all plastic. There was a bar fridge and a microwave in the room. The shower was one of those pre-fab corner units and pressure was pretty bad, like the Seinfeld episode where he couldn't wash the conditioner out of his hair.

The village and surrounding area are very pretty, and many opportunities for hiking though it was incredibily windy .. kept us awake. Lots of bike trails. There were several deer in the lawn and ball park beside the hotel and apparentaly a bear had been spotted on the main street of the village the day we arrived.

There were 2 "turn-offs" at this spot in particular. The first was that they took a $300 pre-auth on our credit card, claiming they need to have a "damage deposit". Hello... we are seniors! A young couple who checked in while about a dozen people having dinner in the "restaurant", which is basically a dozen tables in the lobby by the fireplace had prepaid their room and were told they need now to do the "damage deposit" . How embarrasing for them and how unprofessional of the staff to discuss this within earshot of other patrons. Since the hotel had already charged the room to their card, I am assuming they had no option but to stay there.

The second turn off was when we could not send email messages and phoned the front desk what outgoing server we needed to put in our Outlook options and the front desk clerk, a female, said we didn't need to change anything because their wifi worked fine. Since we travel a lot we are used to having to change that setting and asked her to check with the manager. She called us back and said the same thing, and we told her not to worry about it further since we would just go to webmail. When I went down to check out she again told me I was wrong and did not need to change anything, again with several people sitting at the tables in the lobby having breakfast and she would not let the discussion drop. It's not so much an issue of them not knowing the information as a lack of discretion in dealing with their clients.

Heads up: if you are there in the summertime, they also own the Bayshore hotel which is in the best location, right on the lake.

If I were to travel back to this beautiful area, I would stay in Pincher Creek or rent an RV.

Room Tip: Stay somewhere else .. in Pincher Creek there is a Ramada and a Hampton Inn... it's only about 5...

Hello-I want to first apologize that you were not completely satisfied with your stay. I am also sorry that you found our prices high but we try and stay as competitive as we can being a seasonal business in a national park. You should give us a try during the week, are very reasonable. The only hotel with a Lake view is the Bayshore Inn and they are closed in the winter but we show our location and view on our website , i am sorry you were disappointed. We have no choice but to serve a limited menu as we have a very small kitchen (only open in the winter) and are very slow during the week so carrying large quantities of stock is a challenge. Most businesses close during the winter because of the harsh weather conditions at times and Waterton is generally only busy on weekends and not worth keeping open if you are a large business. We keep one bar of soap and body wash in the rooms and if you were not provided with that i am sorry, we keep plastic wrapped glasses for sanitary reasons. The shower pressure is usually very good in the hotel, i will have maintenance check it out. We take a deposit swipe of your credit card like every other hotel in the world, i am sorry if that was not clearly explained to you. As far as the internet goes , the agent should have told you that she did not know the outgoing server, she is German and maybe there was a language barrier. We have simple WiFi and she should have told you to use webmail. I am sorry for the confusion. We work very hard to have the best rooms in the park by constantly renovating and listening to our guests needs. We will work hard to correct your issues and i hope you will give us another try to get it right.

This was our second time there. It is extraordinary location. The rooms are a very good size with beauitful decor. The weather was warm and there was no air conditioning . . . but they had plenty of fans were most accomodating. We truly love this great hotel. It has the accomodations of a larger hotel but with the quaintness of a smaller one. The gentleman at the front desk was very helpful.

My husband, daughter, and I spent 3 nights at this hotel a couple months ago and LOVED it. The deluxe one-bedroom unit was ideal for us as a family. It had a living room with pullout couch & fireplace, a bedroom with a king bed, fireplace, and small balcony, and in between those two rooms, another 2-room area consisting of a bathroom, separate sink area, and counter area with microwave and minifridge. After several days staying together in a single standard hotel room in other locations, we were delighted by this layout as it allowed us to get our daughter to bed early, and allowed us to sleep in even though she was playing in "her" room. Everything was very clean and in good shape. The best aspect of our stay here was the cheerful, resourceful, and very generous help we received from the desk staff, especially Hashim. Out of kindness, he went above and beyond our hopes to assist us with a difficult situation we encountered (which was completely unrelated to the hotel). We wholeheartedly recommend this hotel and its staff to anyone traveling to Waterton.
