“A peaceful and relaxing getaway in a beautiful cottage and setting.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed August 30, 2009

We were a family of 7 with two 6-yr. olds and a baby. We had the top two floors of Arrow's Rund (with the loft) and it was plenty of room. The decor is beautiful and comfortable; the kitchen is large and modern and there is a lovely big deck. The nearest beach access (just across the road) is a great place for kids to explore along the rocks and in the tide pools, plus there are numerous other beaches close by. We were treated to a delicious carrot cake for dessert one night, made by Rocky. What great hospitality!! I would highly recommend this cottage to anyone wanting a family vacation in the Gulf Islands. We certainly will be.

The owners, Rocky and Ralph, are wonderfully hospitable. They know the island well and Ralph sat down with us for a good 20 minutes to go over all the things we can do, including many little known places.

The house is very well appointed and really comfortable and spacious. Huge windows and beautifully presented. Very clean, super cozy beds, snazzy big kitchen and a lovely large balcony. They also have all the amenities you could want with a big TV and a stack of good DVD's and a Playstation. Also, a great sound system which I plugged my Ipod into. Build in speakers throughout which was great.

Of course, we weren't there to watch TV! The Island is fantastic. We go there every year and love it. The house is not on the water itself, but is just a short walk to the water. Its not a beach, but large rocks which we all love climbing over and laying on. The house is in a lovely forest setting with hammocks hanging in the trees. It's very quiet.

On Galiano, a trawler brings fresh fish once a week and we wanted some fresh crab, but we weren't going to be there the day the trawler was, so Ralph kindly offered to pick some up for us. He did that, but also cooked it and left it waiting in the fridge for us to steam on our arrival. THAT is service!

Not only that, but we were presented with Rocky's home made blueberry pie with ice cream supplied too. This was not just a surprising and wonderful gesture, but honestly the best pie I have ever had (and I have had a few, it has to be said).

It was just such a lovely stay and Rocky and Ralph are such warm and welcoming people. I can't recommend this place enough. It's so comfortable and relaxing.

Arrow's run is a beautifully appointed and practical apartment. Our kids loved the loft and the hammocks and we all loved the blackberry pie. The hosts are very friendly and knowledgeable and even took the trouble to come over and tell us about wales passing the island so the kids could see them. We would go back in a minute.

To anyone who has never visited the Gulf Islands off the coast of British Columbia, you do not know what you are missing! Where else in this world are you able to step out your front door on a short walk to find the rolling waves of the ocean, rock- faced beaches teeming with starfish, eagles perched atop a tree, blue herons fishing from the shell beach of the sheltered bay before you, or orcas feeding on wild salmon? Where else can you drive a short distance to experience kayaking in quiet bays, hiking of various levels of difficulty, or roller coaster roads for cycling? Such is the world that Rocky and Ralph will introduce you to when renting one of their cabins on Galiano Island. Our choice of accommodation was the Arbutus Grove Cottage; clean, cozy, comfortable, and quiet. Ralph and Rocky are fine hosts; supplying historical and sightseeing information sometimes with the surprise additions of homemade baking and farm fresh eggs. While the cabin adequately provides the amenities of home, we were pleased to have followed the advice of our hosts in our dining out experiences from halibut at the local pub to enjoying the best gourmet takeout pizza ever served while perched on our favourite spot at Bellhouse Park. Don't forget to visit the red booth at the ferry dock; fabulous Indonesian food, bratwursts, and breakfast pitas ever. Would we return to the Sticks and Stones Cottages again? In a hearbeat. We know that when we return to Galiano, Ralph and Rocky will be our first choice of lodging.

We stayed at Sticks & Stones for 5 nights at the end of July and we enjoyed every moment of it. The location is absolutely relaxing in a setting that offers everything. Ralph and Rocky are most wonderful hosts.

Two couples enjoyed a weekend in the comfy, beautifully appointed Arrow's Run house. Very tranquil setting with a sunny deck. Our hosts were welcoming and full of island lore and sightseeing tips. Renting a moped at Montague Harbour is a fun way to explore Galiano. Great beachcombing is just across the road. Relax.

I have stayed twice at Sticks and Stones Country Cottages and look forward to visiting again. The accommodations are really lovely, clean, and peacefully located within walking distance of shore access. The owners are very knowledgaeable about the island and provide wonderful suggestions to take advantage of what it has to offer. I would highly recommend Sticks and Stones to anyone planning a trip to Galiano Island. It feels like a home away from home.
