“Ignore pre refurb reviews, this is a great find”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 3, 2015 NEW

We stopped here on a bank holiday sat after being turned away from 2 previous restaurants. It was full but they did not take bookings so we chanced it. The lovely people at a big table agreed to share their table with us so we did not even have to wait.
It is a bit of a gastro pub, a very small menu I thoight but well spread and catered for everyone. I would also recommend it for a quick mid afternoon snack as the sharing menu was very appetising! The guest. Ever was very nice and the fish and chips we had could not be faulted, except for the following the recent trend in seeing the chips in some kind of wire basket mug, and the sauce in a re sealable glass pot ! Just pop it on the plate.
The only thing I would add was that after the meal was served no one came to check if we wanted anything else once we started. This is industry standard for so many reasons, but on this occasion not required as the meal was lovely. We also had a starter of the nuts which are those 1.50 for a pot variety rather than in a bag...

Overall very impressed with this find and not too far from Ashbourne.
Price wise reasonable with a under 10s kids menu available. 19 for a steak, 11 for fish and chips , burger etc. my son had the burger and that looked very nice as well..
Sharing options were cheaper..

“Lovely meal”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed May 2, 2015 NEW

We have been here twice now, first time for a drink and we said we would go back for food, we didn't regret this desition I had pork and apple pie which was lovely and i loved the gravy in a tea pot thought it was great ( plus i like lots of gravy) my husband had the burger which he also enjoyed although he would of preferred the Tripple cooked chips and not fries, but having said this he still enjoyed his meal. I couldn't resist a dessert which was the chocolate cake and I wasn't disappointed,
We will be returning

“Lovely for lunch ”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2015

Stopped here on a whim on the first day of our holiday and it got us off to a great start. Good selection of beers (sadly not many local) and generous sandwiches with chips to die for! Good wheelchair access (though I didn't use the loo) big car park and lots of different height tables so easy to find something to suit my legs!

“A recently revamped pub well worth a visit”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed April 28, 2015

Very tastefully refurbished. Went there for lunch recently - from a limited menu we chose fish & chips. Very nice indeed, head & shoulders above the chippy but overpriced at 11.00. It's all very well being on the tourist route to Dovedale, but they need to make the food affordable for locals too

“Excellent quality food and drink”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed April 24, 2015

Stopped here for food and drink at 5.30pm after a twelve-mile walk around Dovedale. The recently refurbished pub is immaculate in every respect and the food and drink first-rate. Service excellent and warm. Would thoroughly recommend.
