“Lovely setting, perfect for walking”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed July 6, 2009

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay at the Old Vicarage. The rooms were comfortable and spotlessly clean. Nicky, the owner, was extremely helpful and friendly and cooked perfect breakfasts every day - we highly recommend the smoked salmon and scrambled egg and the homemade bread and jams were delicious!

This b&b is perfectly situated for walking in the local area of Dovedale and the Manifold valley. Thor's cave is a short walk away and worth a visit. During our stay we took the opportunity of a visit to Alton Towers which is only a 25 min drive away.

The local pub is very conveniently located and has a beer garden and friendly staff. Other nice pubs for lunch or an evening meal can be found within a few miles.

4 of 5 stars Reviewed September 4, 2007

This is a small guest house set in an attractive village in the famous Dovedale area of the Peak District. We arrived to a welcome pot of tea with fresh home-made scones and jam and this set the tone for the whole of out stay. Nicky, our hostess was both friendly and efficient.
The house is in a lovely garden setting and is a stone's throw from the local village pub, with plenty of good alternative pubs within couple of miles. The bedrooms were clean, comfortable, quiet and "homely". Breakfast consisted of good fresh products with home-made jams. There was access to a range of drinks etc at all times and substantial packed lunches were provided to order.
We chose this establishment in order to spend a couple of days walking in the area and we weren't disappointed. We were able to leave our cars behind at The Old Vicarage, and follow a great network of paths through Dovedale and the Manifold Valley. If we had stayed longer, there would have been plenty of places to explore further afield.

This beautiful Country House is set in over an acre of secluded gardens in the heart of the peak District National Park. Originally built by The Chatsworth Estate, The Old Vicarage has been lovingly restored and offers a home from home full of character and charm,in the pretty stone village of Wetton. With literally dozens of walks and cycle rides straight from the door and a traditional pub only 2 minutes walk, it is a great base to explore this picturesque area. Wake up to the aroma of Nicky's freshly baked breads served with organic home made jams and a tasty freshly grilled breakfast. We are also ideally located for exploring the pretty marker towns of Ashbourne, Bakewell and Buxton and the many National Trust properties in the area as well as Chatsworth House and Alton Towers.
